Description

From the author of the New York Times bestseller All the Missing Girls—the gripping story of a journalist who sets out to find her missing friend, a friend who may never have existed at all. “Think: Luckiest Girl Alive, The Girl on the Train, Gone Girl” (TheSkimm).

When Leah Stevens’ career implodes, a chance meeting with her old friend Emmy Grey offers her the perfect opportunity to start over. Emmy, just out of a bad relationship, convinces Leah to come live with her in rural Pennsylvania, where there are teaching positions available and no one knows Leah’s past.

Or Emmy’s.

When the town sees a spate of vicious crimes and Emmy Grey disappears, Leah begins to realize how very little she knows about her friend and roommate. Unable to find friends, family, a paper trail or a digital footprint, the police question whether Emmy Grey existed at all. And mark Leah as a prime suspect.

Fighting the doubts of the police and her own sanity, Leah must uncover the truth about Emmy Grey—and along the way, confront her old demons, find out who she can really trust, and clear her own name.

Megan Miranda delivers a deep, dark and twisty novel just as thrilling as her New York Times bestseller All the Missing Girls.

  • Amazing!!!!

I haven’t read a Megan Miranda book that I didn’t love yet so I’m not surprised that the perfect stranger has become a new favorite! It was very suspenseful and had me begging for answers. I know some other people have criticized it saying it was too hard to follow but I LOVED it, all the twists and turns and suspense! I never know how it’s going to end and that’s why I love it. My only complaints would be the overuse of certain metaphors and the loose ends to one of the characters (Paige). But I might have missed something. Other than that, it was a fantastic read!!

If you make it to the end without any confusion congratulations. So many moving parts and storylines. Gets relatively confusing so I’m shocked I made it through with all the pieces put together. It’s an easy read and it is a story that you won’t want to put down. The author draws you in with all the moving bits that you want the answers to so you’ll keep reading. While this book was not the best, her book All The Missing Girls was a fantastic read that is 5 stars. Choose that one over this one if you are deciding between the two.
  • Not a fan

I’m surprised this book is reviewed so well. I think the story line was alright but it was SO jumbled and not clear. I would continually have to go back and re read pages multiple times to pick up what was going on. Just not cohesive. Also lots of unnecessary self dialogue from the main character. I couldn’t find any attachment to her or other characters. Literally no one in this book is likable. This was the first book in a long time I just wanted to be over. I read the whole thing but it was tough I just needed to know how it ended. Not a fan of the writing style or the flow whatsoever. Wouldn’t recommend
  • Poor finish

I’m very disappointed in how this novel progresses. What I thought was a well-developed story just dropped towards the finish. It felt as if the author became exhausted with writing and just tried to wrap it up quickly and carelessly.
