Description

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

It was never supposed to be this close. And of course she was supposed to win. How Hillary Clinton lost the 2016 election to Donald Trump is the riveting story of a sure thing gone off the rails. For every Comey revelation or hindsight acknowledgment about the electorate, no explanation of defeat can begin with anything other than the core problem of Hillary's campaign--the candidate herself.

Through deep access to insiders from the top to the bottom of the campaign, political writers Jonathan Allen and Amie Parnes have reconstructed the key decisions and unseized opportunities, the well-intentioned misfires and the hidden thorns that turned a winnable contest into a devastating loss. Drawing on the authors' deep knowledge of Hillary from their previous book, the acclaimed biography HRC, Shattered offers an object lesson in how Hillary herself made victory an uphill battle, how her difficulty articulating a vision irreparably hobbled her impact with voters, and how the campaign failed to internalize the lessons of populist fury from the hard-fought primary against Bernie Sanders.

Moving blow-by-blow from the campaign's difficult birth through the bewildering terror of election night, Shattered tells an unforgettable story with urgent lessons both political and personal, filled with revelations that will change the way readers understand just what happened to America on November 8, 2016.

You feel as though you are secretly In the room as important decisions are being made while not being aware of the factors but the egos behind them Then there's the night of the election when both sides felt the results would be different and were prepared to speak accordingly The author captures it all and the human side as well.
  • Woman With A Plan

Yes. HIllary and Billary had a plan all along. First it would be Billary's turn. Then Hillary's turn. Nothing and no one would ever get it their way. The crimes, subterfuge, and never-investigated murders that surround this team have made a farce of the American political system. I don't think anymore more than I wanted a woman in the White House. But not THIS woman. This book clearly shows Hillary for the schemer she has always been. The facts presented clearly show a need for investigation into all aspects of her campaigns.

If you want to witness slow motion destruction of Hillary's 2016 presidential campaign, this book is it.

Well-written but little that is surprising. Authors paint Hillary as a good and caring person when many people know that she is just the opposite.
  • Political must read!

Shattered is a must read for any fan of politics. It's a brutally honest account of the Clinton campaign written by two pro-Hillary journalists.
  • A laborious read

So in-the-weeds that, unless you are a campaign insider, you'll undoubtedly start skimming. Endless details of day-to-day insider activities, so the important events and themes get lost. Seems as if the authors were trying to turn their interview notes into as many book pages as possible, without regard to whether the details were important or not - irrelevant details get as much, or more, attention as pivotal events. The 2016 presidential election was a thrilling ride - this book throws a wet blanket on it.
  • Conformation for Trump supporters, closure for Hillary supporters

I went into reading this with an open mind. I have never liked Hillary and never will. This book confirmed what most people already know about her. She's all about herself and always has been. Even in the face of defeat she still cannot accept the fact that SHE and she alone is the reason she lost. For her supporters, I think there is some closure in there. It's sure to tick off Bernie supporters since she blamed Trumps rise and overpowering of her message as something that started with Bernie and Trump was able to keep building on that. Overall I would recommend this book to not just Trump people, but everyone no matter who you chose this election cycle. Especially for those Hillary supporters, there was flaws not only in the way the campaign was ran, but in the nominee herself.
  • Typical misogynistic, superficial drivel meant to pacify voters' consciousness

This is yet another slanderous tome to add to the corpus of Hillary-is-Satan propaganda books. Advice: Read a real book, not this propaganda.

I was taken aback to the years of 2015-2016 which already seemed like a movie. I didn't support Hillary Clinton in 2008 nor did I want her to be president now. I don't agree with all of Trump's policies but he had a better message than she did.
