Description

My name’s Max Hall, and I need to f***. As a pro hockey player who’s been away from the game for over a year, my libido has picked one hell of an inconvenient time to come roaring back to life.

After my wife died from a rare form of cancer, sex was the last thing on my mind. Same with hockey, the other love of my life. Now, after fifteen months of eating too much, drinking too much, and generally just feeling sorry for myself, I’m facing a steep uphill battle to get my ass in shape and play my way back onto the Chicago Aces.

So I’m not looking for a relationship. Just sex. Yeah, I know how that makes me sound. But the truth is, I’ll never love another woman the way I loved my wife. When I meet a sexy bridesmaid at my teammate’s wedding, I decide to scratch that itch. A fling with Kendra Armstrong in her posh hotel room could be just what the trainer ordered.

Not only is Kendra smokin’ hot, she’s dynamite in bed—one of the perks of being a sex toy designer. Since she lives in New York anyway, we agree to keep things casual, no strings attached. The arrangement is perfect . . . until one of us falls in love. And it’s not me.

After being away from hockey for a little over a year, Max has one goal in mind....claiming a spot on The Chicago Aces. He's hired a trainer who not only works him to exhaustion, but has changed his diet. Although Max has the skills, he's also one of the oldest players vying for a coveted spot on the team. While attending the wedding of his fellow hockey player, Max sees Kendra and all thoughts of training evaporate. Kendra enjoys life and follows her dreams. Always trying to care for others and "fix" their problems, Kendra initially attended college graduating with a degree in psychology. She soon realized she couldn't "fix" everyone. So she and her best friend began designing sex toys. She loves her life in New York City, but frequently travels for business. During her travels, she often visits her cousins and friends in Chicago. Where she meets Max... An agreement for no strings sex, is just what Max needs to "get back in the saddle". But Kendra and Max's one night soon turns into more. Neither wanting to make a commitment, but not wanting to see the other dating anyone else. Kendra's insecurities and general bad taste in choosing men, coupled with Max's grief is a recipe for disaster. Or is it..... This novel has ALL the feels! It makes you cry, shake your head with exasperation, laugh out loud, and cheer for the "old" guy to make the team. I LOVED it! I can't wait to read what Kelly Jamieson has in store next! Warning...have Kleenex close by. The tears are worth it in the end! I read a gifted copy and all opinions stated are my own.

This is the fifth book in the Aces Hockey series and I have read and enjoyed all of these charming stories. Each book is a standalone but the characters are all interconnected. Kelly Jamieson knows how to write fun, sexy stories. I love reading about the hot hockey players on the Aces hockey team as they fall in love. Max, a veteran on the Aces hockey team has taken some time off from hockey and is now training hard so he can get back on the team’s roster. He is only interested in hockey and doesn't have time for anything else in his life right now. Max is attending a wedding for one of his teammates when he meets Kendra. Max and Kendra start a no strings relationship but things turn into something more and they aren't sure how to handle it. I found Max easy to like. He is a sensitive, honorable guy going through a rough time and and the last thing he expects is to fall for Kendra. They have a passionate affair. Kendra makes Max feel things he hasn't felt in a long time but he wracked with guilt. Kendra is a psychologist and has started a business selling sex toys. She is smart and hard working and not afraid to talk about sex or ask for what she wants. I admired Kendra’s passion and courage. She is always open, honest and upfront. She tries to get Max to talk about his feeling but he keeps everything bottled up and has a hard time expressing himself. Max and Kendra are great together. They not only have explosive sexual chemistry, they are also comfortable with each other and have a lot of fun. I enjoyed everything about this story and can't wait to read more books in this series. There are fun secondary characters including the the guys on the hockey team. This has an engaging plot line and the characters are realistic and easy to sympathize with. I was given an advanced copy of this book to write an honest review for Netgalley and Cocktails and Books.

This story was a really good story. Max Hall took some time off of hockey to be with his dying wife and now he is back. He is working hard and wants it to be his sole focus. He doesn't have time for women or relationships. When he meets Kendra at a wedding, he thinks it might be a good time for him to "get back in the saddle". He just wants one night....which of course turns into more nights. Kendra is a breathe of fresh air. She is witty and smart and brings life back into Max's world. They both decide to give casual a try, but as you can imagine, that never works. This book has a lot of emotion as Max tries to move forward in his life. He battles with grief and moving on and when it's OK to love someone else. Kendra has family issues of her own and tries to downplay how much they've hurt her. The story was good and definitely held my interest. I liked the characters and even shed a few tears as Max and Kendra found their way. Another good read in this series.

Ever since Max Hall lost his wife to cancer 15 months ago, he took a hiatus from playing hockey and has been wallowing in self pity, Now that he's training to get back in shape and try out for next seasons team, he's actually thinking some sex would be good. At the wedding of one of his teammate, he spots one of the beautiful bridesmaids in particular, Kendra Armstrong. Making his way to her, he tries to connect with her and actually succeeds. All he needs is to get back in the saddle for one night and Kendra is more than willing. The fact is Kendra is amazing in the sack, and truth be told, she runs a sex toy company to help women find their niche. What more could he ask for, since he's not looking for a relationship, just some hot sex. Plus she lives in New York, far away from Chicago. They can scratch their itch whenever she's in town. Except she's all he can think about, since they have amazing chemistry together. Alex knows he will never love anyone the way he loved his wife. As their relationship gets stronger, Alex starts to panick. Then Kendra declares her love for him and he loses it. This can't be happening. He doesn't need a woman to fulfill his life, does he? As all her other books, this new one is amazing. Kelly Jamieson has become my favorite writer at this point. Her knowledge of the sport is spot on. Ms Jamieson gets all her facts together and does her research before putting it on paper. Her books are not only wonderful romance stories but extremely entertaining. Another great job!

I was given an ARC of this book for an honest review. Max is wanting to get back on the proverbial horse after the death of his wife, but he knows he will never love another person like that again. His only love now is Hockey and he will do whatever he needs to do to get back in shape after is absence from the sport. Kendra has been burned to many times to trust again and has decided her only passion in life will be her career and making her business a success. When Max and Kendra meet at a wedding and sparks fly, both are up for some fun with no strings attached. And since the weekend went well and their chemistry is awesome, why not just hook up? Seems like a great plan for both of them. I loved both Max and Kendra they both were so strong, but so vulnerable. This story was so great to read, watching this couple evolve into the HEA they deserved was so well done. I loved how Ms. Jamieson was able to let us see Max’s struggle with moving on after his wife. I would recommend this book! It was a great read, and it’s always fun to catch up with the rest of the Team

An excellent addition to the Aces Hockey series. This is Max Hall's story and it's emotional, sexy, and full of hope. Max stepped away from the game and the team when his wife became ill. She passed away over a year ago and now his focus is earning his spot on the team back. Why his libido picks now to come back to life is beyond him butt one look at Kendra Armstrong and he's at full mast. Guilt weighs heavily on him but he knows he needs to move forward. Putting it all out there for Kendra was hard but she knows the score and agrees to a sex only relationship. Everything is going great until it wasn't. Great story and one I think you'll enjoy. I highly recommend it.

If you have read the previous book in the series then you would already know Max Hall. He's the one that broke our hearts when we learned his wife was dying of cancer. In Slap Shot, Kelly Jamieson brought him back to show us how he was dealing with that loss and helping him to come back to life from his grief. I'm not always a fan of stories that have one of the main characters finding love again after a deceased spouse. I think it's not an easy thing to accomplish having that character properly mourn the spouse without making them too much of the focus in the new relationship or being too callous about the death. I think Kelly did a good job with Max's story. At least, for me I was satisfied with how she handled everything. He did still mourn his wife and truly believed he would never find love again or more like he was afraid to find love again, but I never felt like the deceased spouse took over in the story. We got to see Max open up to Kendra even when he was in denial. He wasn't perfect, which you really can't expect from someone that is coming out of grief. Overall, I really enjoyed the story and I'm so happy that Max found Kendra. They were so great together. If you are taking request Kelly Jamieson, I want to see Kendra's best friend and business partner get a book. We only got one scene with her little girl but she was adorable and I want to see one of these strapping hockey players come into their lives. ARC provided by NetGalley.
