The worst of nature and the worst of science will bring the human race to the brink of extinction...
Master Sergeant Reed Beckham has led his Delta Force Team, codenamed Ghost, through every kind of hell imaginable and never lost a man. When a top secret Medical Corps research facility goes dark, Team Ghost is called in to face their deadliest enemy yet--a variant strain of Ebola that turns men into monsters.
After barely escaping with his life, Beckham returns to Fort Bragg in the midst of a new type of war. As cities fall, Team Ghost is ordered to keep CDC virologist Dr. Kate Lovato alive long enough to find a cure. What she uncovers will change everything.
Total extinction is just on the horizon, but will the cure be worse than the virus?

I don’t typically read Zombie books, but took a chance on Extinction Horizons and wow, I wasn’t disappointed! Unlike many zombie apocalypse books and even movies, Nicholas Sansbury Smith provides a scientific explanation of how people are mutated into variants (Zombies) and provides characters which are complex and well-developed, which brings the story to life! I highly recommend if you like intelligent, well-written books that packs action, plot twists, and a great storyline, this is it!

After reading The Remanning series by D. J. Molles I had to read this. I have not been let down in this series. Heart pounding, lots of action, and of course an enemy the world has never seen before.. or have they.

This book was amazing. It had me on the edge of my seat the entire time I was reading it. What I enjoyed the most about this book was how relatable the character were, especially MSG Beckham, and being in the military and can understand how the soldiers feel at times.

I've been searching all over for a book that will actually get my heart pumping. None of the paranormal so called horror books hit the spot like this book dose. I will definitely continue to read this series.

For all you adrenaline junkies out there (like myself) this book is a "keeper". Intensive research, realistic character development and non-stop action is signature of the author’s usual writing style. However, I think he’s ramped it up a few notches for this series. Lucky readers! Delta Force “Team Ghost” is the best-of-the-best, accustomed to kicking butt and taking names. So what better way to test their mettle than pit them against a global pandemic of epic proportions? The result is 350 pages of brilliantly layered tension and suspense. If you don’t want to be up all night reading (like I was), start early.

Another great book by Nick Smith, one of my top favorite authors. This is a story about bad government (which I love), mutants (who doesn't love mutants) and the end of the world as we know it (always a winner). I enjoyed the characters and they seemed genuine to me. Of course there is the budding romance and i'm sure book two (hint) will further develop this. I would have liked a little more back story about the bad government scientist but maybe that's a prequel. ***** Possible spoiler for some ***** I liked the mutants - they were pretty scary. However I thought the physical changes occurred a little too swiftly. But then again, for this kind of genera you always have to suspend reality for it to work. I just think the changes could have spanned a day or two and maybe would have added more psychological horror to the infected as they consciously went through the changes. All in all, though, I definitely enjoyed the mutants. I think the bad government guys could have had more exposure and suffered more. I think they got off too easy. I'm definitely looking forward to book 2! Keep up the great work Nick!
