Wish You Were Mine

In Wish You Were Mine, Everett had many concerns about himself which hindered himself in some areas in life. Everett wanted to become a doctor just like his father. Everett followed his dreams never derailing them. Until his friend Aidan sent a letter requesting he return home. Cameron’s character worked at her families ranch where they held summer camp for veterans children. The camp helped children cope by distracting them with fun activities. Three characters...the three musketeers...childhood friends: Aidan the rich stable, safe, supportive guy; Everett the unstable, unbalanced, and broken guy; and Cameron the Beautiful, strong and stubborn girl. The storyline was cut and dry. Each character had nonnegotiable goals and dreams. Each character made easier choices when it came to dating rather than take the risk of getting hurt. Basically, the only solid choices being made were the ones to follow their dreams. These characters can’t fault themselves for wanting to follow their dreams. I didn’t love the delivery of this story, but I did appreciate the message which was to face your fears. The way these characters went about denying their feelings caused a domino effect of bad choices prolonging them being together. They wasted a great deal of time denying themselves a love that they instead wished for. The timeline execution alternated between chapters, switching from the past to the present filling in the missing details of the friendship that formed years ago. The story focused on a multitude of characters and the choices they made either out of selfishness or sacrifice and the consequences of these choices. Personally I still didn’t feel they faced their fears on their own. They had outside forces assisting and pushing then together.
