Description

Wizard for hire Harry Dresden has to track down the things that go bump in the night in this novel in Jim Butcher's #1 New York Times bestselling series.

There’s no love lost between Harry Dresden, the only wizard in the Chicago phone book, and the White Council of Wizards, who find him brash and undisciplined. But war with the vampires has thinned their ranks, so the Council has drafted Harry as a Warden and assigned him to look into rumors of black magic in the Windy City.

As Harry adjusts to his new role, another problem arrives in the form of the tattooed and pierced daughter of an old friend—all grown up and already in trouble. Her boyfriend is the only suspect in what looks like a supernatural assault straight out of a horror film. Malevolent entities that feed on fear are loose in Chicago, but it’s all in a day’s work for a wizard, his faithful dog, and a talking skull named Bob...

I found book 8 to be simply amazing. The Story telling opposed to the previous books, Is a lot more paced, The details the exposition on topics, and how events were naturally able to unravel without it being forced I think is what really pushes this book to another level opposed to the other books in the series. Whilst Setting up a plot that has you on the edge of your seat, Waiting to uncover what’s really going down. Imo This book is a must read for all Dresden Fans.

Fabulously entertaining. Much tongue-in-cheek humor and an exceptionally well thought out plot.

Butcher's Dresden Files novels are always a treat. Loaded with all the action of a summer blockbuster, Jim also manages to fill his works with LOL humor, and that's something I can't say about too many authors. This book is definitely on my favorites list. Hard times for Harry always ends in good reads for me. Oh, and while the storyline is largely standalone, there's continuing plot lines and recurring characters from previous novels in here that might spoil past events for new readers. If you're new to Dresden, you're looking for Storm Front, Jim's(and Harry's) explosive, hilarious debut.

When I first started to read the Dresden Chronicles, I had to fight with my impression of the lead character. In my mind I was seeing Paul Blackthorn, the actor who portrayed Dresden in the single season TV version. (I think the show was ahead of its time, looking back with clear hindsight.) Anyway, this Harry didn't seem to be likable, he was irritating, stubborn, and well, a thorn. As the book series has progressed, however, so has Harry's character, until he seems more curmudgeonly than irritating, and we know his heart's always in the right place. Each book in the series gets more intense. "Proven Guilty" is the best yet. A real, "I can't put it down" kind of book. Since the beginning, the characters are all evolving, blending, and swirling around an increasingly dark core of betrayal and evil, and a new, unknown, mighty power is behind it all. If you haven't read any of the Dresden Files, then I urge you to start at the beginning with book one, "Storm Front" and get ready for a real reading adventure.

This series is everything I could want, action, adventure, horror, danger and above all else comedy! These books are one thing I look for in a series, the inability to put it down after I start reading!
