Description

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Millions of people have fallen in love with Auggie Pullman, an ordinary boy with an extraordinary facewho shows us that kindness brings us together no matter how far apart we are. Read the book that inspired the Choose Kind movement, a major motion picture, and the critically acclaimed graphic novel White Bird.

And don't miss R.J. Palacio's highly anticipated new novel, Pony, available now!

I won't describe what I look like. Whatever you're thinking, it's probably worse.

August Pullman was born with a facial difference that, up until now, has prevented him from going to a mainstream school. Starting 5th grade at Beecher Prep, he wants nothing more than to be treated as an ordinary kid—but his new classmates can’t get past Auggie’s extraordinary face. Beginning from Auggie’s point of view and expanding to include his classmates, his sister, her boyfriend, and others, the perspectives converge to form a portrait of one community’s struggle with empathy, compassion, and acceptance. In a world where bullying among young people is an epidemic, this is a refreshing new narrative full of heart and hope.

R.J. Palacio has called her debut novel “a meditation on kindness” —indeed, every reader will come away with a greater appreciation for the simple courage of friendship. Auggie is a hero to root for, a diamond in the rough who proves that you can’t blend in when you were born to stand out.

Ok so I just saw a review that said Auggie is ugly but he was born like this so u shouldn’t be so judgmental. Anyway, I’m currently in 5th grade and I’m reading this book in class and I actually rlly like this book so far. It was really funny and most of the characters are really nice (except for people like Julian) but this book teaches u to be yourself. And I’m almost done with the book. So this book is a 9/10 (for now..!)

I figured out that the moral of the story is to just be yourself. You don’t need other people telling you that you are ugly on the outside, but you can be beautiful in many ways.

I read this in school and I love this book so much. It’s a great book for learning how different some people can look on the outside. I definitely recommend to any teacher, middle schoolers, and even adults. I also think this book is great example of encouragement. Auggie is definitely a brave 5th grader who has some challenges in life with bullies and making friends, but that never stopped him. I definitely think the book is better that the movie, and i’m not a huge reader! Thank you for making and outstanding book!

Ok, so I don’t usually read novels. Here’s how I got to read this book: my fifth-grade class was having a trip to the school library. The book I picked out was a graphic novel (I read those a lot. Like, a lot-lot.). It turned out that it was on hold and they had just forgotten to put in the “hold” section. I didn’t find any other books I would have liked, but I found this book. I decided to get it since I’d already watched the movie a few years ago. I smacked it onto the librarian’s desk, thinking I wouldn’t really read it and maybe an occasional skim. Boy, was I wrong. I opened it up in class and I was hooked. Engaged. Call it what you want. Anyway, I read it the whole day. I swear I would have stayed up late just to finish it. It was awesome. I’m definitely planning to watch the movie again.
