The Count of Monte Cristo

Description
An Apple Books Classic edition.
Alexandre Dumas’ classic paints a portrait of Edmond Dantès, a dark and calculating man who is willing to wait years to exact his perfect plan for revenge. After his so-called friends frame him for treason, Dantès is sentenced to life imprisonment in a grim island fortress on what was supposed to be his wedding day. After 14 years, he manages to escape prison, but he is unable to free himself from an all-consuming fury. Instead, Dantès spends a decade carrying out the plan for revenge he conceived while behind bars, bringing nightmarish ruination to those who once betrayed him-and second chances to those who tried to save him.
When it was first published in 1844, The Count of Monte Cristo quickly became the best-selling book in all of Europe. Dumas’ novel was ahead of its time, an exciting tale of adventure, treasure, secret identities, and daring escapes. It also reads like an early psychological thriller, leaving readers uneasy as they cheer Dantès on in his vengeful quest. It’s no wonder this book has inspired dozens of screen adaptations!
Reviews
Good book rather long
4By MikeW4455Good book rather long. A lot of misspellings and some repeated sentences. Good read.Great book, horrible translation
1By Cushy but funAI translated or something, many mistakes in this versionBook > movie every time, this one no exception
5By Jayhawker84I saw the movie when I was younger and thought it was good. Now having read this novel in its entirety, I will remember the movie as trash and never recommend it to anyone. This book is amazing, simply put.Typos and repeated words.
5By Gordy Machu 95I have this edition because it’s free but the typos and repeated words are distracting.Beware of typos
3By OButtersWThe book was great. This particular edition had so many typos it became distracting.Good stuff

5By Mattimus B.One of the greatest books of all time, there is a reason it has endured.Vengeance vs. mercy
5By distyoneAmazing story - in seeking vengeance- no one really wins - now I understand why we are taught to show mercy.Count of Monte Cristi
5By SugejoeCouldn’t put the book down!! All the morons complaining about the typos, should get a new brain. The typos weren’t that extreme and anyone reading it should have easily deciphered the actual content. Typos did not reduce the enjoyment of the book at all. This is a great story
4By 007BlackDogThis is a great story and I had seen the movie many years ago with only a few memorable scenes. The book really addresses a lot of human nature. It appears this version was produced through some automated process. There wore so strange typos and repetitive sections. Nothing one can’t ignore and move on. I really enjoyed it.A Great Combination of the Modern and the Ancient
5By John R 716The length truly made it seam like an old friend. Yet, it is a gift that takes much patience to enjoy. This complex tale is full of intermingled characters, most of whom are referred to by several different names and partial abbreviations. I was required often to do a name search to recall a character who had not been active for a few hundred pages. In the same manner I used the internet and dictionary to understand the references to life back in mid 1980s Europe. Finally, the translation feature was naturally helpful. There is a fine payoff to all this effort. Enjoy.Errors
1By memleakAs many have pointed out, this translation is plentiful of grammatical errors, typos, and formatting issues. Although, it’s possible to simply ignore it and move on, it’s a great deal of a distraction to those who really want to absorb the content rather than playfully skim through because a sentence or two was incoherent. The lack of proofreading is appalling.Riddled with typos…
3By KiPattsI like this book, though it was incredibly long, but the typos were a GIGANTIC distraction. It got so bad that I started highlighting all the misspellings. The people behind Apple Books Classics should seriously thumb through this and fix the issues.Almost unreadable
1By MojoGio60The translation is disappointing and the electronic version of the book is full of printing (and spelling) errorsFantastic story, told well in this English translation.
5By Sugar JonesFantastic story, told well in this English translation. When I started this book, I thought: ‘How am I going to get through 12 hundred pages?’ By page 100, I was like: ‘There’s only 11 hundred pages left?’ It is such an intriguing and complicated story, related in a manner uncommon in today’s novels. Give it page 100 at least, you won t be sorry…Best story ever written!!
5By camara ownerIf you haven’t read this masterpiece don’t waste a minute more of your life start right now!!Monte Cristo
5By RhighnessLove this. Amazing creativity in the writing of the ultimate revenge story and faith in God. I’m going to read the three musketeers next.
