Description

Now a major motion picture starring Jennifer Lawrence and Joel Edgerton!

From the New York Times bestselling author and veteran CIA officer Jason Matthews comes the electrifying modern spy thriller Red Sparrow.

In contemporary Russia, state intelligence officer Dominika Egorova has been drafted to become a “Sparrow”—a spy trained in the art of seduction to elicit information from their marks. She’s been assigned to Nathaniel Nash, a CIA officer who handles the organization’s most sensitive penetration of Russian intelligence. The two young intelligence officers, trained in their respective spy schools, collide in a charged atmosphere of tradecraft, deception and, inevitably, a forbidden spiral of carnal attraction that threatens their careers and the security of America’s valuable mole in Moscow.

For fans of John le Carré and Ian Fleming and featuring “high-level espionage, pulse-pounding danger, sex, double agents, and double crosses” (Nelson DeMille), Red Sparrow is a timely and electrifying thriller that is impossible to put down.

You are absorbed pretty quickly into a fast paced story with plenty of action. The violence is a little graphic but the characters are like able and that's part of the pull.

Finally an author I can get behind. I’m excited to read the next two books in this trilogy and hope that there are plenty more to come. My only recommendation to anyone reading this review is skip the movie and pick up this book instead.

One sentence consists of 243 words. Yes. I counted. 243 words, without a period. Near the end. When he’s driving to the swap... Frankly I didn’t love this book. I didn’t hate it, but I found it mediocre. It has its moments, but then digresses into long, rambling narratives... up and down...
  • Great read, too bad he sold it be made into an awful movie

Read three of the books, really good. Was excited to see the movie from the first book and was so disappointed. Terrible. Didn't the author ask to read the screen play before he agreed to sell the movie rights? What a mistake. Now I doubt any of the other books in the sequel will be made or will be any good either.

Outstanding book!!! I loved this book, and really enjoyed the additional touch of recipes that brought me back to reality after an exciting and sometimes brutally scary event in the book. I also loved the politics that helped me understand the really tough and difficult lives of spies. DIVA is an awesome protagonist, who must also have a brilliant purple aura herself!

Wow, this is SO detailed and amazing. If you love books about spycraft and CIA work, you will appreciate the complexity and detail of Jason Matthews’ RED SPARROW, which is told from the pov of Dominica, a Russian girl who is trained as a “sparrow” or Russian intelligence officer who will spy and run honey pot operations, seducing her targets and gathering information, and Nate, a CIA officer who had been in Moscow managing informants until one day he is nearly caught and his cover is blown. She is sent to extract information from him. He is told to develop her as an agent. But are real feelings starting to form? This is just a really cool book, especially if you ever loved the TV show “The Americans” and questions of real or not real. Long, complex, and with an interesting array of emotions that keep you invested in seeing what comes next. And I just loved Dominica and Nate! So many twists and turns as this winds its way towards the end. Definitely reading the next book in the series!

Have already red the sequel, which is even better. Great writing, great insight, great plot, great characters, great style! All of this in a genre that has, of late, become mediocre at best. A breath of fresh air! Harkins back to early Clancy, Ludlum and Higgins; with less disillusionment than Le Carre, but with much of the same character depth and plot intrigue.
