John William Polidori (1795-1821) was an English writer who has become famous as one of the founding fathers of gothic novel and the creator of the vampire genre. His most influential work is 'The Vampyre' published in 1819. The main hero of the story is a young Englishman who meets a mysterious man, lord Ruthven.
