Casey's Warriors is a story about an alien race who do not produce females so they have to travel to other worlds to find their mates. The story behind why they don't produce females and what they need to do for protection of their people was unique and the writing was mature. The woman are held in very high regard and seem to have all the power despite the male alien race being known for being fierce warriors. I had a hard time with this concept. It wasn't easy to keep seeing the men as warriors when they were so submissive to the woman. The warriors need to bond with the woman to keep them from going insane or having their minds being taken control over by their enemy, which happen to be a hive of corrupted women. I personally prefer the male to be a lead so this story might not be for those who prefer that as well. The other issue that others might have is that the women are expected to bond with not only their mates but all the men that serve under their mates. This is called a partial Bond that not only helps the men be loyal to their household but to also protect those men from the hive as well. To bond with these mem, while it doesn't have to be sex, it does have to be of a sexual nature. That was a bit much for me considering how many men this could mean. What I did like was how in this story, the earth women had dormant powers that don't activate until they bond with their mates. It was a nice twist and I would have liked to have read more about that. It does look like the author will continue this story with other characters so maybe we'll get to read more about these dormant gifts. ARC provided by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
