Description

There was a time when Jake Becker had it all together. He was controlled, driven, ruthless—in and out of the courtroom.

Then, six irresistible orphans and their heartbreakingly beautiful aunt crashed into his perfectly ordered life. They changed everything. They changed him. Now he’s a husband, an upstanding member of society, a father figure—a family man.
And he’s pretty damn good at it.

Sure, he has to referee sibling smackdowns, re-learn algebra, ensure his clients stay of jail, and keep his wife happy—but it finally feels like he’s got it together again....

So, of course something has to screw it all up. It’s huge. Life-changing. Kind of terrifying.

And it will be the most amazing, perfect thing he’ll ever do.

The one thing I detest about Emma Chase books is that they end! Her characters are so real and multidimensional that they seem, for a short time, a part of your life. Ms Chase's writing is clever and whip smart funny...keeping you engaged and emotionally invested the entire story...and for me, even after to story has ended. This closure to the Legal Brief series is bittersweet, but oh so welcomed. The culmination of all the characters was heartwarming, but the closure for Jake and Chelsea made my heart sigh. Jake is the kind of man every woman hopes to meet, fall in love and spend the rest of her life with. In him Ms Chase has created the perfect, yet flawed to a small degree, man. That he can love so deeply speaks volumes, especially with the childhood he had. That he could fall in love with the six children who are the nieces and nephews of the extraordinary woman to capture his heart makes him that much more of heartthrob legion. The HEA he and Chelsea are given in this story is the perfect ending...and the way that the tie up of all the characters is presented worked to provide an ending that felt worthy of the series.

Sidebarred is an novella, and sadly the last book in the Legal Briefs Series! I love this group of sexy, fun, and wild couples. I am so happy that Emma decided to give us a glimpse of their futures with this little gem... Jake and Chelsea have been married for two years. Their life is crazy with having six kids running around the house that range from six to seventeen years old. It's chaos but they wouldn't want it any other way. Its perfect chaos in their eyes. They wouldn't want to change a thing until they are hit with disappointment. Only then, is it time to shake things up! Jake and Chelsea are not the only ones going through changes. The kids are forever changing. Their friends have some coming their way too. One big bag of changes getting all mixed up... I loved this book!!! Catching up with all of the characters of the series was so fun. The kids are amazing and so sweet. They have their moments like most kids do. Jake and Chelsea are still one sexy couple. They also have their moments like all married couples do. It makes them even more real. Overall...its an novella with a lot of heart, humor, sexiness, and emotion. I laughed. I cried. I wanted to make a gingerbread town. BTW: There is a little treat at the end of the book for you Appealed fans! Quotes: Chelsea’s voice is low, so the kids can’t hear. “There will never be anything sexier than watching you—with your muscles and tattoos—braiding a six-year-old’s hair.” “You know how in school they tell you, ‘there are no stupid questions’?” “Yeah?” “They’re lying to you.” “Better?” I play with her hair. “Yeah. Better.” “Good. Now I need another bath. You got me all dirty.”

I was excited to hear there would be a novella after 'Sustained'. I fell in love with these characters after reading the first book. I loved catching up with Jake, Chelsea and their gang of kids. This novella was well written and held my attention. This is how all novellas should be written! It was the perfect combination of romance, drama, comedy and every day life. This story left me with a smile on my face. Anyone who enjoys this series will definitely enjoy this novella. *I received this arc in exchange for an honest review*
