Description

“There’s nothing semi about Finn Murphy’s trucking tales of The Long Haul.”—Sloane Crosley, Vanity Fair
More than thirty years ago, Finn Murphy dropped out of college to become a long-haul trucker. Since then he’s covered more than a million miles as a mover, packing, loading, hauling people’s belongings all over America. In The Long Haul, Murphy recounts with wit, candor, and charm the America he has seen change over the decades and the poignant, funny, and often haunting stories of the people he encounters on the job.

Having spent a number of years with Wheaton as an owner contract hauling agent, this book brought back many memories of my days on the road. Finn is the real deal, he has lived the life of a long haul mover and has the wit and humor you need to survive that life. Well done Finn!! Now get a good long deserved rest. RWClark 1-193

One great read! A side of life I had completely missed. If I ever move again, you can believe there will be a cup of coffee and a place to put used Gatorade bottles.

Finn Murphy’s keen observations paint an intimate portrait of the spectrum of human existence; the prose answer equivalent to “42,” his insights are both enlightening and enigmatic.

FANTASTIC read! As a road warrior myself, I found myself empathizing with many of the situations presented in the book.

Finn Murphy is a master storyteller. I can almost hear the chorus of, "Finn, you should write a book!" he probably heard whenever he regaled friends with these tales from his life on the road. It is a well written gem of a book that entertains and enlightens from beginning to end. It will be one of those books that I recommend to friends, buy as a gift, and talk about for a long time.
