Description

Things I'd love to say to Ryder Covington...

I hate you more than a hole in my favorite pair of leggings.

Your smirk makes me want to yell in all shouty caps.

You're really gorgeous...until you open your mouth.

Stop looking at me like that. You're not ripping my panties off.

Saying those things to him would be the whipped cream on top of my rocky road ice cream, but I can't, because he's my client. And I'm up for a promotion. Oh, and the little fact that my boss told me to give Mr. Covington everything he wants.

But the only thing he wants is me. And he can't have that.

Each book in the Rule Breakers series is STANDALONE:

* The Rule Book
* The Rule Maker

    The Rule Maker By: Jennifer Blackwood 4.5 Star Review by Kristie K Breaking the rules has never been so much fun… Zoey Reynolds loves her job, and when she is tasked with completing a second design job for a very important client, she prepares herself to deal with the powerful and enigmatic Jason Covington. An early trip to the property for measurements and initial interpretations of the space brings a very unwelcome surprise… A surprise in the form of the very gorgeous, completely cocky, and totally infuriating brother of her client, Ryder Covington. Oh, and did I mention that he also gave her the most incredible night of her life before leaving without a word? The man that caused her current dry spell, and ruined her for any other? Ryder Covington loves his job. As a professional snowboarder, his life is full of action and fun. When a broken leg sidelines him for the off-season, he goes back home to recover and rehabilitate in time for training. When his brother asks him to help him out with a new renovation project, he is more than happy to oblige. Things get even more interesting when he goes to check out the new property, and meets the new designer charged with transforming the property. It’s none other than Zoey Reynolds…the woman he hasn’t gotten out of his head since their night together. Unfortunately for him, his hasty departure after their one night together has caused a major chill in the air between them. Can Ryder thaw the ice around her heart? Jennifer Blackwood has delivered a fun, sexy read with plenty of humor and lots of heart. I love the quick wit, and sharp comebacks that both Zoey and Ryder threw around throughout the book. Some of the situations that they found themselves in were so hilarious, I found myself laughing out loud! Zoey was a slightly uptight little thing, but reminded me of all the anxieties and quirks that we, as everyday people, deal with on a daily basis. She was so refreshingly real, it was nice to feel such a kinship with her character. And Ryder? Hell, he was every red blooded American woman’s idea of a dream man. Gorgeous, funny, sweet, confident…but not afraid to be vulnerable, and kind. Not to mention amazing in the sack. Ryder is the complete package, but he has his quirks as well. Just as real as Zoey, but also as dreamy as a favorite book boyfriend. The character development was well done, and on point. The plot and storyline were well thought out and well executed. I thoroughly enjoyed the entire story, though there were a couple of times the outcome of a situation made me think twice. The writing was excellent, and I found it very easy to lose myself in the story and forget all about time and space. Definitely the most fun I have had in recent days, and I so look forward to what Ms. Blackwood has in store for us next. Kristie K

    Jennifer Blackwood has done it again. She has written an amazing story that I could not put down! This story had second chances, catty deceitful grannies, moments that have you falling over in laughter, true love, and an Uber pregnant pigmy goat. (You have to read the book to find out what that means). 😉 I would recommend this book to anyone. ❤

    The Rule Maker by Jennifer Blackwood is the second book in her Rule Breakers series. It is a standalone romance told in dual POV between the two main characters. Zoey is the best friend and roommate of Lainey who you may remember from book one, The Rule Book. Ryder is Zoey's one night stand from that same book and he is back in her life in the most inopportune way, at least for Zoey, at least according to her "rules". Sweet and sassy, the back and forth between these two is funny and tension-inducing all at the same time. Zoey worries that Ryder will break her heart AND ruin her fledgling career. Ryder isn't sure why but Zoey is nothing like any other girl he has ever been with. He begins to pursue her despite his own "no repeat" lifestyle. Enjoyable, sweet and well-written - Light on the steam but high on the emotions. Enjoy!

    Zoey loved her job as an interior designer, and the firm she works for is ecstatic about having another job from the prestigious Covington Family. Zoey has already designed one building for Jason and is excited to work with/for him again. Only she's in for a complete shock when his brother Ryder is the one waiting in her office instead of Jason. How in the world I'd she going to pull off working with him on this project when they've slept together which is one of the company's cardinal rules "Don't sleep with client".... But he want a client then, so as long as it's not repeated it'll be ok. Although she'd the throat punch him than work with him since he left like a jerk in the middle of the night. It doesn't matter that it was just a one-night stand, it was the best night and now she can't stop thinking about him. How is she going to work with him, maybe she should just hand of this project to another designer. Ryder was torn on his feelings for Zoey. He hated leaving in the middle of the night during what was supposed to be their one-night stand, but he didn't have a choice. Should he have called her, yeah probably but he'd never been in that type of situation before. Now his brother Jason has asked him to step in and work with Zoey on this project since he's home recovering with a broken leg from a snowboarding accident. How can he work worth her on this when 1-he can't so thinking about her and 2-he's not on board with this project. He thinks the place should be torn down, and add much add it positions him to admit he she's with his grandparents that the place should just be sold. How do Zoey and Ryder decide to make working together on this protest work? You'll have to read THE RULE MAKER to find out. Oh but this romantic comedy was great! You'll be chuckling if not laughing out loud throughout their banter. Their banter is hilarious, from page one I refused to put this book down! The sexual tensions are OFF THE CHARTS from the get go between Ryder and Zoey. Another spectaculiar hit from Jennifer Blackwood. I haven't read the Rule Book (Rule breakers#1) yet, but I'll definitely have to go read what I missed out on. These are stand alone stories with characters that blend together. Due to sexual situations, this book is recommended for readers 17 and older! I voluntarily reviewed an ARC copy of this book via IndieSagePR/Entangled Publishing through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. The second book in the Rule Breakers series is just as entertaining as the first...expanding upon Brogan and Lainey's story with the introduction of Ryder (Brogan's good friend) and Zoey(Lainey's roommate). The banter and dialog is just as smart and sassy, with more snark thrown in which makes for some pretty hilarious reading. The predicament that Zoey finds herself in, on Valentine's Day, when she inadvertently meets up with Ryder again after a one night stand months before, has to be one of the funniest I have read in a very long time. Ms Blackwood's comedic timing is storytelling at its finest. How Zoey earns the nickname Flash Ryder gives her is hilarious. The evolving of their relationship had some very heartwarming moments...Ryder mimicking one of Zoey's historic romance novels was one of the sweetest things anyone could have ever done for someone else. The banter between the two was charming and pulled at the heartstrings at the same time. I absolutely look forward to more from this author in the future. • Another Refreshingly Fun Read from Blackwood

    > > Judging a Book by it's Cover < < Nicely dressed man, unbuttoned, relaxed looking. Pinks in background add some pop of color. Strong title, not so strong author font. Synopsis sounds like another enjoyable read from Ms. Blackwood. > > Looking Deeper < < POV: Alternating first-person POV, clearly defined. One of the things I enjoy most about Jennifer Blackwood's books is her uniquely refreshing personality and sense of humor that she brings to the characters. They are smart and snarky. The books are as entertaining as they are enjoyable. Ryder ~> Professional snowboarder and brother to Zoey's client, Jason. Had a one-night affair with Zoey 4 months ago. He's seen as the unreliable, irresponsible one; the one with no follow-through. His career is currently sidelined after breaking his leg. Zoey ~> Interior Designer, the firm she works for was hired by Ryder's brother once already and now again for a new, huge undertaking. However, due to recent circumstances, Jason passed the duty of the renovations to the new acquisition to his little brother. Despite the awkwardness of recent developments, they have to work together and she has to keep him happy if she wants to keep her job. Secondaries ~> Lainey and Brogan (The Rule Book) are present, Jitters the slasher cat, some family, and a few co-workers balance and fill the plot nicely. Chemistry & Compatibility ~> Electric sparks, crackling and igniting anytime they even THINK about each other. This one contains more sexier, heated scenes than the first book. Dialogue & Interaction ~> On point with current situations. The bantering and inner monologues were fun as heck. Plot & Flow ~> Smooth flow, mildly dynamic plot. Not a lot of deeper topics, but plenty of drama mixed into a sexy, RomCom. Conflicts & Resolutions ~> a few conflicts were presented here and there, all of which seem to be resolved fairly well. Predictability ~> Unfortunately, I predicted the conclusion fairly early on. However, it was not a glaringly obvious thing and did not really detract from the overall story. No fun surprises. Conclusion ~> Ryder and Zoey get an implied HEA that felt slightly rushed even with a short flash-forward ending. (No pun intended) Recommendability ~> I really enjoyed the overall story and think others would, too. . I won an ARC of this book in a giveaway from the author. I really enjoyed this one. The author has a great voice. The banter and humor are especially well done. Zoey and Ryder were wonderful characters with good chemistry. I liked that this book had both the perspective of the hero and the heroine which was different from the first book in this series. The only small criticism I have would be that it could have been a little faster paced. Overall it was a fun, sweet read. I also definitely recommend checking out the first book in the series, The Rule Maker.

    The Rule Maker by Jennifer Blackwood is book number two in the Rule Breakers series. This is Zoey Reynolds and Ryder Covington's story. Zoey is an interior designer and thought she would be working for Ryder's brother Jason. Boy is she shocked to find out her client is Ryder. Will Zoey be able to follow the rule (Don't sleep with your client...)? It should be easy to follow this rule. But, will that one-night stand they had in the past cause problems? I liked the first book in this series but I loved this book. I was hooked from the beginning. I really loved Zoey and Ryder's characters. They were a lot of fun. A great romance with a sexy couple and lots of humor. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
  • Funny but serious!

    The book blurb snagged me immediately. This sounded like it was going to be a very funny book. While it did have its funny moments, it was actually more serious than I was expecting, but that's not a bad thing. The only thing that truly kept me from loving this book was that I never felt Ryder truly cared about Zoey until almost the end. They met through Ryder's brother, Jason. He hired Zoey to design a property he purchased. Ryder got to know Zoey and ended up sleeping with her. He freaked and snuck out. There was never any intention of him contacting her again. After a horrible accident that Jason was involved in, Ryder stepped up to help with his business. This was how Ryder and Zoey met again. Even working with Zoey, it took Ryder a long time to realize he wanted more with her. I giuess the romantic in me would have preferred Ryder to show he cared more. ARC provided by NetGalley.
