Description

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Soak up the sun—and the intrigue—with the first novel in John Grisham’s beloved Camino series.

“A happy lark [that] provides the pleasure of a leisurely jaunt periodically jolted into high gear, just for the fun and speed of it.”—The New York Times Book Review

A gang of thieves stage a daring heist from a secure vault deep below Princeton University’s Firestone Library. Their loot is priceless, but Princeton has insured it for twenty-five million dollars.

Bruce Cable owns a popular bookstore in the sleepy resort town of Santa Rosa on Camino Island in Florida. He makes his real money, though, as a prominent dealer in rare books. Very few people know that he occasionally dabbles in the black market of stolen books and manuscripts.

Mercer Mann is a young novelist with a severe case of writer’s block who has recently been laid off from her teaching position. She is approached by an elegant, mysterious woman working for an even more mysterious company. A generous offer of money convinces Mercer to go undercover and infiltrate Bruce Cable’s circle of literary friends, ideally getting close enough to him to learn his secrets.

But eventually Mercer learns far too much, and there’s trouble in paradise as only John Grisham can deliver it.

Reviews

  • Convoluted, boring, useless read.

I kept thinking that this was gonna go somewhere and somehow be exciting, but it meandered on meaninglessly. It kind of read like an old table top book. It seemed like Grisham wanted us to somehow appreciate how hard it was to write a book. I think he convinced me because this one just was not worth it.
  • An abrupt ending

A page turner, kept me fascinated, and then boom, it was over. Seemed to dismiss the primary character from the ending, and was a bit of a rushed termination.

Great book! I enjoyed all the twists and turns, and the ending tied it all up. I look forward to reading the next book in the series. I’ve been a John Grisham fan for years, and he always comes through with a great novel!

As my first Grisham novel, l was expecting plot twists and cliffhangers. Nope, not one. You can see the whole story from the beginning and it delivers each expected development on a simple plodding drumbeat.

  • Anticlimactic ending

Ending fell flat, bad guy wins, too simple for such an elaborately laid out narrative plot. Much left to be desired

To me, this was a very solid book. Liked taking a break from court room dramas. I liked most of the characters and enjoyed reading.
  • I love typical Grisham

The writing is very good. There were times when I felt that I was on that beach...

Weakest ending imaginable! I have read many Grisham books before but they were completely riveting, this was more beach trash than a law drama. I liked the characters and the plot but the ending just was awful. Four stars for what could be and a nod to a great author!
  • Easy read

Not a bad book at all. Enjoyed reading it. Got a little dry in the middle but overall solid book. Would recommend

J.G.. writes for old and insecure white men. Camino Winds is shallow. The characters are cheesy and predictable. The story is one long eye roll.

Don’t read this trash that he probably wrote in one afternoon with a beer in hand. Much too chatty, story really flat and far fetched, didn’t get a little interesting until the last few chapters. Mr Grisham lost it. He’s written manny far better then this one.
