Description

“For over five years, I’ve helped 100,000’s of people in 142 countries improve their habits. I originally built a habit tracking app to make it easier for myself, and it changed my life…I used it to lose 40 lbs, decrease my body fat by 7 points, and pay off over $100,000 in debt, all while spending more time with my family and on my hobbies. That was great, but the best part is that so many other people benefited from it too. Over the years, I’ve gotten a lot of questions about planning, tracking and reflecting on habits, so I set out to write a step-by-step strategy guide that’s jam-packed with tips to make it easier to build good habits, break bad habits and achieve your goals.”

  • Great Content, Poor Aesthetics

I purchased this book to help me get started building habits using the Strides App, and it has done just that! I would definitely recommend it to anyone who's looking for a quick way to jump-start intentional habit-alteration, whether you use Strides or not. However, I am really disappointed with the subpar epub design. One of the most significant advantages of eBooks in this format is the various customizable viewing options, which are NOT available in this book! On a Mac, you're forced to view it in 'Two-Pages' mode, using the (standard) white theme, and the unpleasant Times New Roman-esque font. NONE of these options are editable! Oddly enough, you can change the theme on the iOS version, but you're still stuck with the default font. Since I primarily read on my computer, this has significantly affected my overall experience.

This book is an easy read with very practical information. I really liked his advice to focus on how a decision/habit will impact my future self. I now have a framework for creating new habits, so it’s much less daunting to begin changing my old ones. First up, a consistent sleep schedule.

It's easy for me to get overwhelmed with setting goals and then I'm not able to follow through. This book helped me to focus on solving the problems I was running into, so that I could make true progress. I like that it's written in a conversational tone and gets right to the point. It's a very practical guide filled with lots of tips and ideas. I could see myself referencing it many times over as I set new goals and work on my habits.

This books does well at covering some theory of human psychology and what motivates us as individuals. It also has real life examples and steps to make positive changes in one's life and day-to-day. I like that this is written by someone who has actually made changes in their own life. The writer shares those experiences as examples of what can be done when we set our state of mind correctly and focus on goals. Nicely done!
