Description

When one thinks of iconic American companies, a handful of names come to mind. Chances are, one of those names is Sinclair Oil Corporation, which for the last 100 years has served as a standard-bearer of quality, integrity, and customer service.
Founded by Harry F. Sinclair in 1916, the company came to be a fixture on American roads in 1930 when it launched a marketing campaign centered around a green dinosaur that would become one of the most recognized symbols of Americana. For years, the Sinclair Apatosaurus (then thought to be a Brontosaurus), which the company appropriately named “Dino,” greeted customers traveling the open road.
After the passing of its founder, Sinclair’s ownership changed hands three times, with Earl Holding, a visionary businessman who got his start in rural western Wyoming, acquiring the company in 1976. His efforts to grow the business transformed Sinclair into one of the most respected and admired oil companies.
Today, the iconic dinosaur brand is alive and well. As the largest refiner in the mountain west and as the popularity of the brand continues to grow, Sinclair is poised to remain one of the most innovative and successful oil companies through the next century.
