Description

New York Times Bestseller

In a divided country desperate for unity, two sons of South Carolina show how different races, life experiences, and pathways can lead to a deep friendship—even in a state that was rocked to its core by the 2015 Charleston church shooting.

Tim Scott, an African-American US senator, and Trey Gowdy, a white US congressman, won’t allow racial lines to divide them. They work together, eat meals together, campaign together, and make decisions together. Yet in the fall of 2010—as two brand-new members of the US House of Representatives—they did not even know each other. Their story as politicians and friends began the moment they met and is a model for others seeking true reconciliation.

In Unified, Senator Scott and Congressman Gowdy, through honesty and vulnerability, inspire others to evaluate their own stories, clean the slate, and extend a hand of friendship that can change your churches, communities, and the world.

What a truly motivational book. We have a tendency to become wrapped in our safe little worlds where everything is similar and known. Tim Scott and Trey Gowdy speak of reaching out and meeting new and different people to better your life and our societies. I respect both of these men and will try to do as they have suggested. Great read!

Finally, two men with a common sense approach, and men who seem to put the goodwill of mankind above a dollar! Please, run for the 2020 Presidential race. You guys have my vote! I totally enjoyed the read and have shared it on my social media wall.

Congressman Gowdy and Senator Scott exemplify how this country was built to function. Along their enormous responsibilities and personal sacrifices, they found that they had more in common than what set them apart. As I read their story and overlaid my own life I thought of how many millions of us are another Tim and another Trey. Forget that this book was authored by two established Republicans, read it, think about your own life and experiences and you too will find that this is still the most rewarding country for people of all races and creeds to come together and work and live for the common good and prosperity.
