From #1 bestselling author Blake Pierce comes a new masterpiece of psychological suspense—the AVERY BLACK SERIES—which continues here with CAUSE TO DREAD (Book #6), also a standalone novel.  The series begins with CAUSE TO KILL (Book #1)—a free download with over 200 five star reviews!

A man turns up dead in his own apartment, locked in his closet, his body crawling with poisonous spiders, and the Boston police are stumped. As all of their leads collapse, they are  dreading the killer will strike again. Desperate, the police have no choice but to turn to Boston’s most brilliant and controversial homicide detective—Avery Black. Now retired, Avery, in a low point in her own life, reluctantly agrees to help with the case. But when other bodies start turning up, murdered in grotesque and unusual ways, Avery can’t help but wonder: is there a serial killer on the loose?

With the intense media pressure and the stress of having a new, inexperienced partner, Avery is pushed to her limit as she struggles to crack the bizarre cases—and to keep herself from falling into the abyss.
Avery finds herself falling deeper and deeper into the twisted mind of the killer, who holds more secrets than Avery could imagine.

The most riveting and shocking book of the series, a psychological thriller with heart-pounding suspense, CAUSE TO DREAD will leave you turning pages late into the night.

“A masterpiece of thriller and mystery. Pierce did a magnificent job developing characters with a psychological side, so well described that we feel inside their minds, follow their fears and cheer for their success. The plot is very intelligent and will keep you entertained throughout the book. Full of twists, this book will keep you awake until the turn of the last page.”

The usual good read, but her daughter went to the funeral.

I have read all the Avery Black books in a row and this last book had so many errors in the character history. It’s like the author did remember the past books! The book refers to her parents and mother and hunting with her father, but in the first book there’s a whole story of how her mother was murdered by her father and that she dug the grave. How she was put in foster care so how the heck is did her father take her hunting and then die before her mom? Also it states in the book that she remembers Ramirez coffin being lowered into his grave, but she not go to the Funeral because she was in the hospital. Very disappointed that the author doesn’t care enough to know his own character story I will never read any of his books again.

There was a small name mix up in book 3 or 4... not a big deal. But the inaccuracies with the main story line starting in book 3 and continuing on is too much. Characters were switched.. Avery’s background story was changed numerous times (which is what made her). I realize Blame Pierce has written A LOT of books, but maybe she should consider slowing down a bit to make sure she doesn’t lose the details that the character are built on. And the fact that she switched the characters names around and no one caught that.. is beyond me.

Wow, first of all, I love the whole series but this one is something else. I am not sure if Blake Pierce wrote this book because it is full of inaccuracies. For one Avery’s dad killed her mom when she was little so she didn’t have a strained relationship with her mom which ended when she turned 21. Her mom didn’t make it to her 11th birthday. Also Avery didn’t go to Ramirez funeral, she was in the hospital recovering. Rose went and told her about that. The fifth book of the series though heartbreaking was the best and that needed to be the last one. I liked this one but the writing was very different and it felt like the writer didn’t really know Avery at all.

Am I the only one confused here? Avery's mother was murdered by her father when Avery was a child, so how could she have given Avery her fathers gun after he "passed away"?

I just finished book #5. These books are without doubt the best I’ve ever read. I couldn’t put them down. The writing is fantastic. and the stories are riveting I was sad to read the final one. The main character feels like my friend now and I don’t want to be done.
