Description

Obsession. Conspiracy. Attempted murder. One small-town sheriff just landed in the middle of a deadly mess.

As the first female sheriff of Steele Ridge, Maggie Kingston is prepared for all kinds of trouble… just not the mess that invades her town when a superstar quarterback moves in, bringing his big-city problems with him. Jayson Tucker hasn’t been a resident for one day before Maggie is struggling with crowd control, deranged fans, and dozens of reporters camped outside her station, ready to record the latest scandal for primetime TV.

When Jayson reveals startling evidence about a charity he’s been supporting, Maggie suspects there’s more to his story than what the media circus around him is leading everyone to believe. Is there a coordinated smear campaign against Jayson? If so, how far will his enemies go to make sure he stays benched permanently?

While things heat up between Maggie and Jay, they must work together to separate truth from fiction. Time is running out to identify the threat to Jay’s life—and to catch a foe who will stop at nothing to settle the score in their favor.

Maggie Kingston is a tough, no nonsense Sheriff In Steele Ridge. Quarterback Jayson Tucker who not only lost his job but he endorsements. The nonprofit organization he raised money for doesn’t want to have anything to do with him. Go Maggie’s cousin, Griffin brings his Jayson to town. The press flocks to town. Plus Jayson’s sister has problems. They were both raised in a dysfunctional family so meeting Maggie’s family and seeing how they protect and care for each other is something new to them. Maggie sure has her hands full especially when the chemistry between Sheriff and Quarterback gets steamy. Suspense, fast pace, tension, drama and danger, intrigue with lots of thrills and chills plus some romance make for a well blended read. I voluntarily read this eBook. Thanks to the author for the opportunity. My opinion is my own.

No matter the genre that this author writes in, she excels in writing stories that have you engrossed and engaged from the opening paragraph, and then rapidly turning pages. Around every corner is the unexpected, she is definitely the type of storyteller who has a surprise or two waiting in the wings. This first book in the new series, an extension to the Steele Ridge series, involving the Kingston cousins, is no exception. It is a delight that the Steele and Kingston families are weaved together throughout the story. With her telltale gift of mixing drama and suspense with the perfect amount of playful humor and banter, Ms Giordano has given Maggie her own much deserved story. Pairing her with a professional athlete in the form of Jayson Tucker was the perfect compliment to Maggie’s strong female presence. Their story will take you through twists and turns involving different factors and characters all playing strong roles in tying all the aspects together in such a fashion to bringing about the perfect conclusion, to the drama and for the couple themselves. This ARC book was complimentary, provided by the Publisher and NetGalley. I am voluntarily providing my honest review.
