Description

Bodyguard.

Protector.

Security Detail.

I wasn't supposed to join the Marines and serve three tours. I'd been groomed to be another kind of warrior. Since I could walk, I'd been primed to take over the family business. Build the real estate empire bigger, ruthlessly fight my way to the top—make everyone richer.

Instead, I'd enlisted. Wanting to protect my country, not a bank account, I'd turned my back on the family business and gave the Marines eight years. Now I was a bodyguard for the best personal security firm in the business, and life was perfectly uncomplicated... Until an innocent redhead smiled at me and destroyed everything.

Now she was about to find out how ruthless a bodyguard could be.

I’ve read a few of the books in this series and the details ruin the story for me every time! First and foremost, once a Marine always a Marine. Not one of them would ever refer to themselves as “ex”. Not one! They are former Marines. My son is one of them. Most military personnel refer to themselves and others as “former” or “prior”. “Ex” is kind of offensive - when we took our oath, we meant it for life, not just until our enlistment was up. Yes, I am prior military too. Secondly, a “magazine” and a “clip” are two entirely different things and are not interchangeable. There is no such thing as a “silencer”. There is, however, a “suppressor”. Details. Research. Thirdly, most professional men do not carry 9mm handguns. Very few professional women do either. They may as a back-up but not as their primary. I know this sounds like I’m nitpicking but details matter. Maybe most people who read these stories don’t know any differently and it doesn’t bother them but I feel an author has the responsibility to be as accurate as possible even with fiction.

This story is about an Alpha male with communications issues and a clumsy independent event planner. It’s starts off with Genevieve talking off the ear of a bodyguard who has not said one word to her all evening but for some reasons she continues to chat. Said bodyguard is apparently completely taken with the chatter box event planner even though she’s a complete mess. Bodyguard refuses to take no for an answers, takes the chatterbox to a diner at 3 am. Chatterbox then has a run in with a previous bang buddy of the bodyguard and verbally castrates her and then goes shy. After leaving the diner, bodyguard and chatter box are robbed at gun point. It’s later revealed that chatterbox is married and Bodyguard gets offended even though chatterbox never wanted to go out with him the first place. Bossy bodyguard then takes her home because he just can’t let her out of his sight and then proceeds to be a jerk for a week. She tries to leave, which is the first smart decision she made since meeting bodyguard. But then she’s chased by the gangbangers that robbed them at the diner. After a huge gun fight that leave 6 men dead, SHE JUST HAS TO HAVE SEX TO FEEL SOMETHING. And then bodyguard regrets it and treats her like crap. She goes home and the bodyguard stalks her. They make up of course after a week of stalking. Then we get to meet his family and this was honestly the biggest let down. Family is completely disgusted with her lack of family and money and the rift is only widened and not closed. Look this book is all over the place. He’s angry at her, she’s angry with him. He dominates her, she’s not submissive but for some reason she is with him. She has plenty of startling self realizations but it doesn’t stop her from helplessly falling for everything she dislikes about the bodyguard. Tired storyline can we get a heroine who doesn’t just completely fall for the bs.

As a reader I always love a good alpha protector/girl in danger story. This is the story here and it dives right into it. The girl had a tough childhood. No family, no structure. She’s making it on her own. Sawyer is a billionaire marine with daddy issues. Supposedly this girl is supposed to be a babbler and clumsy, but truthfully, she’s only like that the first chapter, and then suddenly, we don’t hear about it again the rest of the book. Personally am not a huge fan of the whole “dominance” thing. Sawyer basically speaks in 1 word sentences the entire book. “Sit”, “eat”, “drink”, “turn-around”… It’s always like this and personally speaking, it gets kind of old. It’s exciting once or twice and then the rest of the book, I just felt like: Can this girl puuulease stand up for herself and letting this guy just shout orders. So overall, it’s a simple damsel in distress with protector love story, but if you’re not into the whole domination thing, you might not really enjoy it.

I enjoyed this newest book in The Alpha Bodyguard Series. Sawyer is the quiet and intense bodyguard who meets his opposite in Genevieve. We first met her as the assistant to Calandra in Reckless. She is always talking and has a nervous energy. Sawyer is very dominant and he knows what he wants. When they come under fire will they be able to forge a life together or will circumstances keep them from finding what they might become? I so could not stand Sawyer’s family but wish I would have seen a little more of what went on there. We are introduced to a couple of new bodyguards in this one that are very intriguing. This author always leaves me wanting more.

This is one of those books where I would love to just gush all over the place about it but I know that isn't constructive. So, I'm gonna try to contain myself and just say that I loved it and why I loved it. #1 reason is Sawyer. As a reader, I'm really into the alpha heroes, but not just any alpha will do. For lack of a better way to describe it, I like a man's man. The kind that are big, tough and scary but also very protective of woman. I like when they feel it's their job to take care of the women in their life. This author does a really good job in this. Her heroes are former military men who still think as if they are in the military. They watch out for danger at all times, they are very protective of civilians, and they have this need to be in control. They are bossy and they are in charge. What tips the scale over with these guys is the body language with the women. They open doors for their women. They buckle their seatbelts. They pull their chairs out for them. The focus that they put on the women in their life is very compelling. This is what you are going to get with Sawyer. As for Genevieve, she's a bit of a mess. I loved this pairing because Sawyer is in so much control and then there is Genevieve who keeps dropping things and talks a mile a minute. She needs Sawyer in her life, badly! This wouldn't be a bodyguard series if the heroine wasn't in danger so you get the suspense of Sawyer having to do everything he can to protect her. This also leads up to former heroes showing up as side characters. I love that. I always want to see more of my favorites and they are all my favorites! We got introduced to two new bodyguards and I can not wait to get their story!
