From “master of clever misdirection” (Kirkus Reviews) Aimee Molloy, author of the New York Times bestseller The Perfect Mother, comes an irresistible psychological thriller featuring a newly married woman whose life is turned upside down when her husband goes missing.

A handsome psychotherapist. His lonely wife. And in his home office ceiling, a vent …

You’d listen too, wouldn’t you? (You know you would.)

Newlyweds Sam Statler and Annie Potter are head over heels, and excited to say good-bye to New York City and start a life together in Sam's sleepy hometown upstate. Or, it turns out, a life where Annie spends most of her time alone while Sam, her therapist husband, works long hours in his downstairs office, tending to the egos of his (mostly female) clientele. Little does Sam know that through a vent in his ceiling, every word of his sessions can be heard from the room upstairs. The pharmacist's wife, contemplating a divorce. The well-known painter whose boyfriend doesn’t satisfy her in bed. Who could resist listening? Everything is fine until the French girl in the green mini Cooper shows up, and Sam decides to go to work and not come home, throwing a wrench into Sam and Annie's happily ever after.

Showcasing Molloy’s deft ability to subvert norms and culminating in the kind of stunning twist that is becoming her trademark, Goodnight Beautiful is a thrilling tale of domestic suspense that not only questions assumptions but defies expectations.

Oops 😬 I mistakenly left a review before reading the Epilogue and completely finishing the book. The review page popped up on the last page of the last chapter and I didn’t realize there was an epilogue until after I had left a review, duh. 🙄 So, final review……Great book with plenty of twists that will keep you interested till the very end, which is by the way definitive.

I really did like this book. It was such a fast read and the twists had me so confused on everything I previously read. Who, why, what.is.happening?!?

I kept reading thinking it would get better and make sense. Just silly Misery connections with deranged nurse and leg casts! Really? What happened to originals instead of imitations? Redeeming quality was interesting discussions of psychiatric disorders resulting from early childhood traumas and experiences. Motivated me to look up authentic research and write an original.

I loved that you didn’t know who was narrating! It kept you guessing.

This was a really good book, there were some confusing parts where I wasn’t sure which character I was reading about. That may have been part of the point though. It was a good read.

Wow! I usually read crime and thriller books with a suspicious and analytical approach. And I usually guess who done it! Not this time. I was so submerged in the story that I missed the subtle clues, which would have helped me guess the hints along the way. When part 2 arrived, I had to hold my head, saying, “What?” out loud. Then, I went back and reread some pages trying to figure out where I made a wrong turn. The first part of the book, we get to know Sam and Annie; a bit eccentric, and I thought they made a great couple. But when the French patient arrives in the green Mini Cooper, things change and you have to ask yourself what do you think you know? I loved the psychology in the book and how it was used both as learning something interesting and as the major theme in the book. I love the way the author dealt with the darker matter making it believable without becoming dreary and depressing. Aimee Molly’s book has clever dialog between characters. Her writing is crisp. But while you are busy reading, she does an about face, pulling the rug out from under you, which is why she’s known as “the master of misdirection” and why the majority of you will love this book.
