Description

“From a little spark may burst a flame.” ~ Dante Alighieri

Madeline~
Life’s lessons taught me well.
Dreams and happy endings are simply illusions our mind creates to soften life’s blows.  I am no longer a little girl who believes in fairy tales or the existence of knights on white horses.
While I never intended to return to Chicago or to see him again, the decision was out of my control. Now I am here, and I can’t or won’t allow the spark in his piercing blue eyes to reignite my heart the way his predatory gaze sets fire to my body.
Patrick Kelly is my past—a childish attraction.
We are no longer children.

Patrick~
I may have started as nothing, but that is history.
Today I’m part of the royalty—a duke, a lord, or perhaps a knight—anointed by and within the upper echelon of the Sparrow dynasty. The wide-eyed tourists entering Chicago have no idea of what lies beneath the surface as they stare at the shimmering lake and shiny buildings.
Nothing is as it seems.
Sparrows control everything—no one enters our realm without our knowledge or catches us unaware.
No one until her.
Now that she’s here, there is too much at stake to give in to the spark that seeing her rekindles within me. Surely if it were allowed to burn, the flames will consume both of our worlds, leaving only ashes.

From New York Times bestselling author Aleatha Romig comes a brand-new dark romance, Spark, set in the dangerous world of Chicago.

SPARK is book one of the WEB OF DESIRE trilogy that continues in FLAME and concludes in ASHES.

No surprise, I loved this book. I’ve been wanting Patrick’s story for what seems like forever and now that it’s here it’s better than imagined. I love that this is a second chance romance and that these characters have a past and now I am so excited to get more and see what the future holds. With an ending like this I’m dying for the next book!

I have to admit that when I started listening to the audible version of Spark, I almost stopped listening. Reason being, I had Patricks voice in my head and the male narrator just didn’t match my Patrick. Needless to say, I kept going because I wanted to learn more about the secretive, mysterious Patrick. Enter Madeline into the picture. She is in town for a poker tournament and Chicago is a place she can’t believe she even agreed to come back too. Madeline had it really bad growing up, but even doing it the hard way, she is trying to survive each day. This story keeps you on the edge of your seat and worried about what the next page will bring. Just let me tell you, Aleatha out did herself with the first book in Patricks story. Man, that ending, I can honestly say that i didn’t see that coming. Holy Crap!!! I can wait to see what happens with Patrick and Madeline going into book 2, Flame, and I need it now.
  • Lacking...

Oh so poorly written, I’m utterly shocked. Boring, repetitive and characters lack a good story line. Seems like a book that needed to be written just for the sake of writing something.

I enjoyed Patrick & Madeline’s story; a second chance romance. The dark underground world the Sparrow world is set in is interesting and full of secrets. I can’t wait for the next two books to see how their story is going.

Wow! Hooked from the prologue! A very mysterious and intriguing storyline. Patrick and Madeline have scorching hot chemistry that’ll have you turning the pages for more. The ending will have you begging and pleading for book 2. A definite must read!
  • Romantic Suspense Done Right

Aleatha Romig has proven time and again that she can craft romantic suspense like nobody's business. SPARK, the first book in her Web of Desire trilogy, is another example of this type of book done right, and it was fantastic from start to finish. An offshoot of the Sparrow Webs series, this trilogy focuses on Patrick Kelly and Madeline Miller. Without giving too much away, suffice to say that these two have one heck of a past, one that Madeline has done her best to put behind her by reinventing herself. Both she and Patrick are completely different people now, both with secrets that they're keeping from each other and those close to them. And, darn it, but what a jaw-dropping cliffhanger Aleatha gave us, revealing both everything and nothing. Like the queen that she is, Aleatha dropped that mic and walked offstage, leaving me wondering how in the world I'm going to make it until FLAME (Book 2) releases and gives up some of the answers. Fans of romantic suspense will eat this book up, and deservedly so. If a fast-paced read with a mafia vibe are your thing, make sure to add it to your TBR, and enjoy. ❤️
