Description

Left standing on the side while their contemporaries marry into society, four young ladies forge a bond to guard each other from a similar fate . . .

Finishing school failed to make a proper lady of Penelope Arrington. But as a Wallflower of West Lane, Poppy has a far more vital role—she and her three best friends have made a pact to protect each other from the clutches of dangerous, disreputable men. So when one of them is about to be married off to a duke sight unseen, Poppy makes it her mission to divine the prospective husband’s true character. If only she didn’t require the aid of London’s most unsuitable rake.

Rhys Draper, Earl of Marsden, has known the headstrong Poppy since she was a young girl naïve to the ways of men. To her eternal chagrin—and to his vague amusement—they have been at odds over  the memory of embarrassing first encounter  all these years. Now, with his services in need, Rhys sees a chance to finally clear the air between them. Instead, he is surprised by the heat of their feelings. If the two do not tread carefully, they may end up in a most agreeably compromising position . . .

I was so disappointed by this book. I don’t like to leave reviews unless I have read the entire story, in order to be fair. I couldn’t wait for the story to end. The story didn’t seem to be much of a storyline. The female lead, Poppy, and friends are trying to figure out if a duke Faith’s mother betrothed her to, is of good character. Very little of the storyline actually revolves around this. The whole book revolves around Poppy being nasty to Rhys. Rhys is like a dog that keeps getting kicked and he keeps coming back for more. No plot twists, just a lot of hate. Poppy has serious issues. She believes that the entire male population either beats their wife, cheats on her or both. Her father cheats on her mother and her mother looks the other way, therefore all men are horrible and untrustworthy in Poppy’s eyes. She acts like such a petulant spoiled rotten child, it is ridiculous. She is so stubborn that she refuses to believe the truth no matter how many times she is told. She is 21 years old and acts like a five year old. If the author was going for a strong female character, she missed the mark. I would NOT recommend this book. The entire storyline consists of Poppy treating Rhys like the dirt on the bottom of her shoes.

Enjoyed this. A good edit would be nice, but it didn’t stop my enjoyment or keep me from getting the next one. My favorite thing: no real games or lies in this one to move the plot along. I liked that the author kept her characters honest and upfront with their words and actions. Very refreshing. Absolutely loved Rhys.

This was a lovely read. The characters are funny and charismatic. The reader can easily be drawn into the friendship of the women, and understand the longing and desire of the romance. I selected this FREE read and will pay for the next 2 books!
