A GOOD MORNING AMERICA BOOK CLUB PICK
"An intense psychological drama that will be embraced by serious book clubs and fans of Lionel Shriver's We Need to Talk about Kevin."
—Kristin Hannah, #1 New York Times bestselling author
"A poetic, propulsive read that set my nerves jangling."
—Lisa Jewell, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Then She Was Gone
A tense, page-turning psychological drama about the making and breaking of a family—and a woman whose experience of motherhood is nothing at all what she hoped for—and everything she feared
Blythe Connor is determined that she will be the warm, comforting mother to her new baby Violet that she herself never had.
But in the thick of motherhood's exhausting early days, Blythe becomes convinced that something is wrong with her daughter—she doesn't behave like most children do.
Or is it all in Blythe's head? Her husband, Fox, says she's imagining things. The more Fox dismisses her fears, the more Blythe begins to question her own sanity, and the more we begin to question what Blythe is telling us about her life as well.
Then their son Sam is born—and with him, Blythe has the blissful connection she'd always imagined with her child. Even Violet seems to love her little brother. But when life as they know it is changed in an instant, the devastating fall-out forces Blythe to face the truth.
The Push is a tour de force you will read in a sitting, an utterly immersive novel that will challenge everything you think you know about motherhood, about what we owe our children, and what it feels like when women are not believed.
Reviews
Unsure how to feel
3By la9312I’m not sure how to feel about this book. I went into it thinking it would be a mystery/ thriller and I don’t think it really delivered on that end. It was more about the hardships and battles of raising a child you have no connection with. Through the middle of the book I was drawn in and asked myself “are people really born evil?” I really wanted to love this book because of all the reviews and how much it was talked about, but unfortunately it just wasn’t my cup of tea. It was not a bad book by any means, just wasn’t for me! It for sure took a while to draw me in, the beginning is quite slow and left me asking myself “what am I reading right now?” I think this book might have been better if I had kids? I’m not sure. The writing was well done, but I finished this book wanting more.Well that was intense!
5By TiffanyGriffin10I loved it! I was consumed by the writing and the feelings and creepiness but also the raw emotion. That was a crazy ride! I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND!Very Relatable
5By nicknametaffyThis book made my shoulders scrunch up. It made me re-read sections. It made me realize that all is not always what it seems - even in the most innocent of places.Must read

3By SchmidMomI agree it is well written, the mother is very relatable and it is suspenseful but it was too upsetting and depressing to not even have any closure at the end.Could not put down
5By emeds123455Honestly I could not stop reading . Great easy readSo depressing. Worst book I’ve ever read.
1By DellmarcoThis entire read was so depressing and nothing ever happens for 500+ pages. I kept reading, thinking a moment was going to happen. It never did. And the ended was so disappointing. I wish I could get this time backHard to put down
5By Churro0503This book was so hard to put down. I finished it in two days. It has similarities to the movie “The Bad Seed”. What a thriller. I would highly recommend reading this book.Best in a while

5By sapepeIt’s been a long time since I’ve read a book that I couldn’t put down, that made me feel the grief of the characters. The last page of this book was everything I wanted and dreaded. It’s sickening how incredibly real this story felt while reading it. This is something I will probably read again and again. Thank you.Compelling
