Description

Hope, Where Are You? is the story of six children around the world who are experiencing school closures. Each story follows a similar pattern of frustration/challenge, finding their hope and importantly spreading their hope to others. Along with the six main characters, you will also find the illustrated characters of 'Hope' and 'Germ' who add a comedic twist. Armand Doucet and Elisa Guerra, as globally recognized and award-winning teachers, saw the impact of school closures on children around the world and wanted to help change the narrative and give children and families hope.

After getting this book for free and because I’m a speech therapist working in the schools providing speech therapy via Zoom, I thought this would be a book I could screen share with my students. I read the first page and it begins with a little girl named Mulu living in Africa who says she’s 11 and her sister was married at 12. She walks 2 hours to get to school and she tries to keep busy to not think about hunger. All of these are very important topics and should be discussed with children, but as difficult as the topics are for adults to grasp, I think children need to have a certain level of maturity to understand these injustices. I only read the first page and closed the book. I may open it again and be selective on topics I choose to share with my students.

I love that the authors shared that it’s OK for kids to have feelings of sadness and confusion at this time, while they inspire the children to put those feelings. And expressed that they should let their parents(family) & friends Grieve with them, while showing those children to follow good/caring instructions of how to handle fears and stress! I *thank you all* from the bottom of my heart: for helping the children (& those of Us of ALL ages, who feel as helpless as do these children) of your book{Hope-Excels in unified LOVE, bringing inspiration And claim to all of us who need it at this time in this pandemic/stressful time.}, BLESSINGS & LOVE to you(Creators of this book)!!!

I love the messages inside the book, and I just thought it was really nice. I’m a girl going into 7th grade next year, and I’ve been feeling so lonely. I miss everyone. I still see people from a distance, but I’m an only child, and I can’t seem to wait for this to be over any longer.

This is such a delightful collection of possible scenarios and stories about families around the world during lockdown due to Covid-19 and how remote learning touched students and changed their experiences to be more positive, ultimately drawing family members closer together rather than distancing them further.
