Description

**A Wall Street Journal bestseller**

This blockbuster narrative provides the first behind-the-scenes, authoritative account of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s marriage, by the New York Times bestselling author of Diana in Private.

The fall from popular grace of Prince Harry, the previously adulated brother of the heir to the British throne, as a consequence of his marriage to the beautiful and dynamic Hollywood actress and "Suits star" Meghan Markle, makes for fascinating reading in this groundbreaking book from Lady Colin Campbell, who is the New York Times bestselling biographer of books on Princess Diana, the Queen Mother, and Queen Elizabeth’s marriage.

With a unique breadth of insight, Lady Colin Campbell goes behind the scenes, speaking to friends, relations, courtiers, and colleagues on both sides of the Atlantic to reveal the most unexpected royal story since King Edward VIII's abdication. She highlights the dilemmas involved and the issues that lurk beneath the surface, revealing why the couple decided to step down as senior royals. She analyses the implications of the actions of a young and ambitious Duke and Duchess of Sussex, in love with each other and with the empowering lure of fame and fortune, and leads the reader through the maze of contradictions Meghan and Harry have created—while also evoking the Californian culture that has influenced the couple's conduct.

Meghan and Harry: The Real Story exposes how the royal couple tried and failed to change the royal system—by adapting it to their own needs and ambitions—and, upon failing, how they decided to create a new system—and life—for themselves.

  • Unflattering portrayal of the Sussexes

The author is overly loquacious in hitting home her negative opinion of H & M. The book is overly opinionated and lacking in substance and evidence. The author also goes to great lengths to include herself in the royal “we”. A socialite yes, but her royal creds are thin. Be prepared to swipe through many pages to get to any content.

Really enjoyed the book. Very insightful. I am NOT a Meghan and Harry fan after reading the book and coming to my own conclusions.

I’m not surprised by the revelations in this book, but by what a great writer the author is. I had no idea, and will be sure to read her other books. What a fantastic gift she has. Great book.
  • Poorly written

The first chapter is so full of inconsistencies and half truths I couldn’t go on. $$ grabber nonsense.
  • Doggedly repetitive

Certain simple themes are reinforced over and over with only a variance of language. 1) Harry is not so bright, and 2) Meghan is a spoilt brat. Was it readable? Absolutely. The cover photo really says it all.

While I find the royal family fascinating, I don’t have any favorites or like or dislike any of them, particularly. I enjoyed this book a great deal due to the backstories it provides behind the various current royal news stories we are all hit over the head with repeatedly. While I think the author is possibly more a traditionalist, she seems to be very fair in revealing truths about royal family members, meaning she doesn’t seem racist, sexist, ageist or biased one way or another. As a reader interested in facts rather than taking sides (I’m not white by the way, nor British), I found this book very refreshing. The author has compiled so much information on the royal family over her lengthy tenure as a royal biographer, and many first-hand stories as well. She also has very good sources in the current time and going back decades, from which she provides interesting information that I haven’t heard before, despite having read most every royal book available. If you are biased toward anyone, you may find something you don’t like in this book, along with things you do like. For those wanting less fluff and more true-story, this is a fantastic read.

Very good read. Lady C gives an imparcial insight on what has been known about this girl’s personality. An interesting recount of what is known of her reactive behaviour towards the BRF, aiming her resentful vengeance to W and C ...
  • Good info but long winded

This book is good and provides good insight, however many of the same points are stated over and over and seems repetitive at times.

Buyer Beware! Actually bought this book as a gift for coworker who follows British Royal Family (BRF). I requested feedback several times. So embarrassed that final feedback to me was this “book” is filled with many errors & is nothing more than rehashed unsubstantiated gossip & opinions based on racism. Asked my coworker to return book to me so I could exchange or get a store refund. However it was too late to return & I ended up buying friend gift certificate to purchase another book of his choice. As someone who doesn’t follow BRF I was stunned to hear Lady Colin Campbell is infamous for being loose with the truth about biracial Meghan. My coworker forgave my error and also gave me a factual history lesson about Lady Campbell who he finds racist, scandalous, extremely unethical & offensive. In future if I puchase any book for anyone about BRF, I’ll research author before purchasing and/or ask for a referral from a knowledgeable source because apparently Lady Colin Campbell is using racism & untruths to make money for herself. Buyer beware!

I was surprised by the lack of fair media coverage of the “Mexit” events in the US. Lady Colin Campbell did an excellent job, providing a great deal of insight and analysis in to the events preceding, as well as following the infamous decision, creating this captivating summer read!
