Description

Open Blind Eyes brings you face to face with the reality of sex trafficking in America through the true story viewpoint of a girl from a small town. Rachel was only nine years old when she was first approached by a perpetrator who was known to her as a teacher and coach. She goes into detail of the process of being groomed and how the evil of what was happening to her in the dark remained unseen by everyone around her. She describes how she coped for so many years by blocking out the memories only to have them resurface when she was an adult with a family of her own. Rachel had no idea that when she would pursue justice it would end up putting her right back in the world of trafficking. It wasn’t until her church family saw the signs and believed what she was saying that she was able to start the process of finding freedom. Rachel shows her faith and love of God during the highs and lows of her journey and she prays for each person who reads her story. That their eyes will be opened and their actions will lead us toward ending sex trafficking in our world.

The beginning of this book was good but from about Chapter 17 until the end, I didn’t like.

This is such an amazing book. It does exactly what the title says “Open Blind Eyes” to how close we are to sex trafficking, but not realizing that it is actually happening! This book made me feel the pain Rachel was going through and it hurt my heart that no one noticed. This isn’t usually a kind of book that I would read, but a coworker of mine was talking about how she was reading it and from what she would tell me it had me hooked!

While I was and am completely heartbroken at the evil this precious child & adult endured, this opened up my eyes to human trafficking. You see, I always thought this happened in big cities where girls were being kidnapped and forced into this (still NOT ok). No one talks about it happening like this! You can imagine my surprise when I realized Rachel’s nightmare happened less than 30 minutes from where I grew up and I’m only 3 years older than her. I never would have guessed it happened in our small towns, especially not in Southern Illinois where I felt safe all my life. I was so naive to it all...until now. I, too, am a mother now and I want EVERYONE I love to read this and educate themselves. Do it for your families. Do it for the young children you may rescue some day. We owe it to this world to make it better! Rachel, if you read this....thank you for the strength to share your story with the world. You are so brave and I’m so glad you got your relationship with God back. Big hugs to you and your family. I believe you and I stand by you! Know that you have a friend in SC who will continue to pray for you and your family. God bless you all!

Being raised so close to this town and attending this high school this book hits extremely close. Reading this and being able to put faces to the descriptions was heart breaking. I never realized how close I was to this type of situations... and how very easily this could’ve been me with one wrong turn, or one wrong comment. #rachelstrong

People need to know more about this. And understand. I would write more but it’s just supposed to be a review for the book yes your story talk to me. I hope more people read this and understand and I know hod will be the one that judges. The bad people. The person that made my life sad is being Judged by God I see it that way put it in his hands because versus humans you’re supposed to give him the control not try to do it on her own. We are supposed to believe in him and let him lead us in the right direction.

I NEVER want to not believe a victim, but there are soooooooo many questions I have after reading this book!!! Like why doesn’t the public hold this coach accountable??? Why hasn’t this girls Dad or husband not taken justice into their own hands??? I’m sooooo confused.
