Description

Before Alex Cross, before Michael Bennett, before Jack Reacher, there was The Shadow! The world’s bestselling author, James Patterson, reimagines one of America’s iconic thriller heroes.

Only two people know that 1930s society man Lamont Cranston has a secret identity as the Shadow, a crusader for justice. One is his greatest love, Margo Lane, and the other is fiercest enemy, Shiwan Khan. When Khan ambushes the couple, they must risk everything for the slimmest chance of survival . . . in the future.

A century and a half later, Lamont awakens in a world both unknown and disturbingly familiar. The first person he meets is Maddy Gomes, a teenager with her own mysterious secrets, including a knowledge of the legend of the Shadow.

Most disturbing, Khan's power continues to be felt over the city and its people. No one in this new world understands the dangers of stopping him better than Lamont Cranston. And only the Shadow knows that he’s the one person who might succeed before more innocent lives are lost.

Nothing like the character from yesteryear. Margo is annoying and Maddy… yikes. Painful to read. Shadow turns into a Cat??? Really.
  • Kids book?? Did I miss something??

Maybe it’s because I listened to the audiobook but this sounded like it may have been intended for Patterson’s younger audience. the one narrator sounded like she was 12 years old. and the story itself was weak. wish I could get a refund or trade in for another book.

Two stars because I’m a fan of The Shadow and new content is cool. This isn’t The Shadow though. Reads like amateur fanfic.

Not great. Just a book Patterson put his name on. Super weird in many ways.
  • Worthy revival of an old classic!,

Interesting spin on a classic crime fighter. As an old Shadow fan I felt it was definitely worth the read and hope there will be more.
  • Great Premise

The idea of the Shadow cryogenically preserved and brought 150 years later seemed like it would be an excellent read. And, with James Patterson’s approval too. How could it go wrong? Sadly it did, wildly so. If JP had anything to do with this he must have been drunk. I’m a third of the way through and it’s a slog. The author appears to be aiming for an audience of pre-teens. The characters are cardboard over the top mindless stereotypes that jump from 1st to 3rd person perspectives without reason or cause. If I was a 13 year old fine I could breeze through the lack of depth and hollow writing style, who am I fooling a 13 year would never be able to get through this. And as an adult this is a great premise turned into an abomination.
