Description

Charming, hilarious, and emotional...When Sparks Fly is Helena Hunting at her very best!

Avery Spark is living her best life. Between her friends, her sisters, and Spark House, the event hotel her family owns, she doesn’t have much time for anything else, especially relationships. She’d rather hang out with her best friend and roommate, Declan McCormick, than deal with the dating scene. But everything changes when she is in a car accident and needs someone to care for her as she heals.

Declan avoids relationships, giving him a playboy reputation that he lives up to when he puts a one-night stand ahead of a promise he made to Avery. While he may not have been the one driving the car, he feels responsible for Avery’s injuries and is determined to make it up to her by stepping into the role of caretaker.

Little did they know that the more time they spend in compromising positions, the attraction they’ve been refusing to acknowledge becomes impossible to ignore. When they finally give in to the spark between them, neither is prepared for the consequences. Their love is fragile and all it will take is a blow from the past to shatter it all.

What a wonderful story of Avery and Declan and best friends realizing they are also in love with each other. When Declan doesn’t fulfill a promise and Avery ends up in a terrible car accident he blames himself . He makes sure he takes care of her as she recovers . This to me was a beautiful story and so worth reading .

Avery & Declan have been best buds & roommates since college. They’ve seen each other through the ups & downs of life. They’ve even been okay watching each other date & cycle through random one night stands. But it’s not until Avery is seriously injured & the guilt stricken Declan insists on helping her convalesce that they start to see each other in a new light. I’m a huge fan of Helena Hunting, but I guess friends to lovers is not my thing cuz I just didn’t feel for how this relationship developed. I did enjoy the way everything wrapped up in the end & the story had a cute epilogue.

I love a best friends romance about friends who seem to be completely clueless about their feelings. It makes the angst and ending so much more satisfying. Avery is an amazing character. She's independent, strong, driven, and loyal. She's no push over and has no problem saying what needs to be said. I really loved everything about her. She's my favorite part of this book. I'm really hoping this is the start of a series!! There's so many opportunities for these other characters!!!

In one place she is turning 75 and in another she is 81. Avery wanted the fountain done before she returned but they just became a storyline that was forgotten about - just like Gran’s age!

Declan and Avery are best friends and nothing more. That is until Avery is in a bad accident and Declan becomes her caregiver while she heals. Close proximity brings lingering chemistry to the forefront that they’ve tried for year to ignore for their friendship. Declan and Avery are H-O-T! A new favorite by Helena Hunting for sure!

Four and a half Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭒ When Sparks Fly by Helena Hunting is a delightful, entertaining, and a bit steamy, friends-to-lovers romance. Avery Spark and her two sisters run an event planning business at the Spark House event space that has been in their family for years. They work hard to keep the business running and are always on the lookout for more events to plan. Avery and Declan are best friends and roommates. Avery and Declan both enjoy soccer and spending Monday nights with their friends watching football and have a special friendship that neither of them wants to mess with. Back in college, Avery was dating, Declan’s best friend Sam, but when Sam was unfaithful, they broke up their relationship and Declan sided with Avery and they both pushed Sam out of their lives. When Avery gets in a car wreck while driving to an important Spark House meeting, Decan is sick with guilt because he was supposed to drive her, but was too late getting up after spending the night with his latest one-night stand. So, when Avery is unable to care for herself due to her injuries, Declan takes time off work, to care for her and help Avery recover and gain back her mobility. The time Avery and Declan spend together during her recovery unearths their deeper feelings for each other, but they have to learn to be together again as Avery gets back to normal. This was a fun, but also deeply emotional book with a perfect friends-to-lovers trope. Both characters have some emotional baggage that keeps them from fully finding love. I like that the main characters are really good friends to start with, and they both understand each other so well, that when they both realize they have stronger feelings for each other, their transition to lovers is easy until they have to face reality again. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a fun romantic book. I received a complimentary copy of this book. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

This book was so fun, cute, steamy, but also had some emotional moments. When Sparks Fly was one of the best friends to lovers romances I've read in awhile. The chemistry was off the charts.I loved watching these two characters acknowledge and develop these more than friends feelings they had for each other. This story is definitely full of laughs as well. The story tapered off a little towards the end as some of that excitement wore off. But overall, I really enjoyed this story.

So much heart in this book! I've come to expect to have a good laugh when I read a Helena Hunting book but I got so much more with Avery and Declan's story. I wasn't expecting to get all emotional ! I really loved that we got so much depth into their characters, how they met and what drove them to stay friends instead of reaching for more. You really feel like the author put her heart and soul into this couple. Declan's loyalty and the amount of care he gives made him one of my favorite heroes. He has his issues and he did do some things in this book that I didn't like, but when you do get that character development to show you why he is the way that he is, I find that I am more forgiving. I could look past his faults and see what he will become. Kudos to the author for making me care so much. Avery was a pretty awesome heroine. I loved how she was herself. Completely. There was no guessing to what kind of person she is or what you will get from her. She was such a refreshing character and exactly what Declan needed. This was a fantastic, emotionally driven read that you can't help but fall hard for these characters. I highly recommend it!

When Sparks Fly by Helen Hunting Contemporary romance. Friends to lovers troupe. Alternating chapters between Avery and Declan. Stand-alone. Avery and Declan have been friends and roommates since college. When Avery gets in an accident, Declan puts everything on hold to take care of her. Their awkwardness in intimate situations such as helping her into the shower becomes routine. Their awareness of each other increases as they spend time together. Laugh out loud antics and quips. I enjoyed this novel for the amusing friendship they shared and the increasing sexual tension. There were issues they had to deal with to get to a healthy relationship. It wasn’t just bushed away which I appreciated. I liked the heroine for her comfort with her life and body and her understanding of dealing with issues head on. Is love different than “in love”? Avery and Declan need to figure that out. 🎧 I listened to the audio version while reading along with an ebook copy. For me, the ebook increased the humor and tension but the audio made me more aware of Declan’s thoughts since his chapters were narrated Jason Clarke. Both he and Stella Bloom did a wonderful job with the performances. For each of their chapters, they did both male and female. I was impressed with both and liked the alternating as the change enhanced the two different points of view. I listened to most of the recording at 1.25 which is the most comfortable for me but to read the text at the same time, I needed to increase the speed to 1.5. I received a copy of this from NetGalley, Macmillan and Macmillan Audio. I also purchased a copy to keep and read again in the future.
