Description
#1 New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout returns with book one of the all-new, compelling Flesh and Fire series—set in the beloved Blood and Ash world.
Born shrouded in the veil of the Primals, a Maiden as the Fates promised, Seraphena Mierel’s future has never been hers. Chosen before birth to uphold the desperate deal her ancestor struck to save his people, Sera must leave behind her life and offer herself to the Primal of Death as his Consort.
However, Sera’s real destiny is the most closely guarded secret in all of Lasania—she’s not the well protected Maiden but an assassin with one mission—one target. Make the Primal of Death fall in love, become his weakness, and then…end him. If she fails, she dooms her kingdom to a slow demise at the hands of the Rot.
Sera has always known what she is. Chosen. Consort. Assassin. Weapon. A specter never fully formed yet drenched in blood. A monster. Until him. Until the Primal of Death’s unexpected words and deeds chase away the darkness gathering inside her. And his seductive touch ignites a passion she’s never allowed herself to feel and cannot feel for him. But Sera has never had a choice. Either way, her life is forfeit—it always has been, as she has been forever touched by Life and Death.
Reviews
Wow
5By JacquiScanThis novel was a pleasure to read, from the twists and turns of Sera’s life. It was a maturing experience for Sera and her story. Her character was impactful and her outlook was intriguing to read more. 8/10 Will be reading the next novel. *SPOILER* I was a tad confused about how one minute Ash despised her from knowing the truth of her training to full on having intimacy with her.In love with this series
5By hale_jooLove the two main leads in this story. Can’t wait to see the storyline unfoldSlow start but once it gets going it going
4By cleaning 4 funIt took awhile to get into this book. But put in the work for the first 2/3 of it and it’s greatJust…Holy Cat Turds Batman.
5By KarmaMustLoveYou24First-this was an easy read. The dialogue had enough modern euphemisms to make it relatable but it also carried a vibe of regency charm. Second-THE. BANTER. Top tier. Chef’s kiss. Witty, snarky and sometimes scandalous. Had me giggling like a goober at times. Third-Tensiiiooooonnnn….oh lord the tension. *fans with a hand* it was dirty, feral and checked all the boxes without overdoing it. Last-THE PLOT. Oh heavens the plot was well done. It had twists and turns and slowly led you places you never saw coming. Easter eggs litter the pages but don’t fully connect until you read the final chapter. Read this book. Heck, read this entire series because it makes the From Blood And Ash series even more impactful.Amazing!
5By Robin TDifferent from the others… A must read. I literally loved this book.Gripping!
5By sarahdeeznutzA Shadow in the Ember is a thrilling dive into an intricate universe packed with magic, prophecy, and plenty of angst. Jennifer L. Armentrout crafts a richly detailed world with just the right touch of spiciness to keep things interesting. While the characters could use a bit more development at times, the plot remains captivating, making it hard to put down. If you’re looking for a fantasy filled with tension and drama, this one’s a solid pick. I’m thrilled to start the next book! It's a cliff hanger ending. But the story so far is fantastic.
5By u2zoo2But check the prices of the rest of series 1st.Love this book!
5By MoMo9792It was all so good!Repetitive Writing Style
2By MeggoMorgoI wanted to love this book, but it was a bore. Armentrout has a hard time not revealing exposition through characters saying "I have a question 🤓☝🏻" and the other characters saying "Of course you do... here's your answer". Poppy did it, and Sera does it as well. To be honest, Sera and Poppy are pretty much the same character - just different hair colors. The main story is dull and the only reason I continued to read is because I wanted to see the love arc unfold. Those are the only decent parts. Everything else feels skippable. ALSO - the use of modern slang absolutely ripped me out of the story. I would give it a 1 if it wasn't for Ash.Amazing read
5By EzGibsThe writing is so intense. I can feel every word as I read! Literally read the entire thing so quickly!
