Confessions of a Video Vixen
By Karrine Steffans
- Release Date: 2009-10-13
- Genre: Biographies & Memoirs
Description
Part tell-all, part cautionary tale, this emotionally charged memoir from a former video vixen nicknamed 'Superhead' goes beyond the glamour of celebrity to reveal the inner workings of the hip-hop dancer industry—from the physical and emotional abuse that's rampant in the industry, and which marked her own life—to the excessive use of drugs, sex and bling.
Once the sought-after video girl, this sexy siren has helped multi-platinum artists, such as Jay-Z, R. Kelly and LL Cool J, sell millions of albums with her sensual dancing. In a word, Karrine was H-O-T. So hot that she made as much as $2500 a day in videos and was selected by well-known film director F. Gary Gray to co-star in his film, A Man Apart, starring Vin Diesel. But the film and music video sets, swanky Hollywood and New York restaurants and trysts with the celebrities featured in the pages of People and In Touch magazines only touches the surface of Karrine Steffans' life.
Her journey is filled with physical abuse, rape, drug and alcohol abuse, homelessness and single motherhood—all by the age of 26. By sharing her story, Steffans hopes to shed light on an otherwise romanticised industry and help young women avoid the same pitfalls she encountered. If they're already in danger, she hopes to inspire them to find a way to dig themselves out of what she knows first-hand
to be a cycle of hopelessness and despair.

This book is a 10/10
5By Taylar SmithAmazing book! I read the whole thing in less than a day.Confessions of a Video Vixen Review
2By sportsgirl2023Decent read… wish the book stuck to the stories in chronological order. Horrible ending. I believe all movies ‘based on real events’ have some fictional nature to them. I felt the story was 50% complete and chapters were missing context or follow-up on stories that were touched on earlier in the book. I was rooting for Karine… but I hate to admit that Tyra Banks was right. The celebrities exposed in the book are the #1 reason the book landed on the charts. Karine does deserve some respect and empathy for all that she’s been through though. Wishing her many blessings and peace!Thank you

5By pmamibroRead this book in a day of purchasing, and wow. The storytelling but still being biographical just amazes me. Karrine’s approach to telling her story as descriptive as she did deserves a round of applause. I appreciate this account and knowing the risk that this is. Respect to all women, and Black women especially. No one’s story is the same nor will we live life the same, but perspectives in people’s lives such as this one is so inspiring. I loved every bit of it!Confessions of a video vixen

5By BossmayneJenI read this book when it first came out. I loved it. I couldn't put it down, I was pregnant and my boyfriend then was in jail and I read a lot. This is by far one of the best books that I've read. She told so much from highs to lows and I believe it was all true and I also believe she really opened the Public's eyes to the entertainment industry and the way they get down. It's a must read if your nosey and love to read.Wonderful
