Description

From veteran entertainment reporter Sam Kashner and biographer Nancy Schoenberger comes the definitive account of the greatest Hollywood love story ever told—the romance of Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. Kashner has interviewed Elizabeth Taylor numerous times and is the only journalist given access to her extensive collection of personal letters and journals, and he and Schoenberger have also interviewed the Burton family at length, including Burton’s actress daughter Kate. This is truly an authorized and singularly informed biography of these two larger-than-life stars, and of their glamorous, volatile, and audacious relationship.

  • Their One True Love

Like many, I have always been enamored by Elizabeth Taylor & Richard Burton and the articles about their lives. This intimate look into the people behind the headlines details the cost of fame, the joy of finding your one true love, and the tragedy that comes with obsession. This book is riveting in describing the many, complicated facets that made up the public phenomena know as Taylor and Burton, and the price they paid for their fame and fortune. It truly illustrates that money does not bring happiness and that a true love is a lasting love. Most people never experience the depth of love and devotion that Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton felt for each other. Though circumstances made it nearly impossible for them to live successfully together, being apart never diminished their incredible love. Even death, I am sure never severed their bond to each other. I would imagine they are finally together and at peace.

What a disappointment! The authors manage to take a fascinating chapter of Hollywood history, and make it almost unreadable. Sloppy transitions, mindless repetitions, and banal prose reflect an extremely low level of expertise and an absolute lack of editing. Taylor-Burton fans are going to wish they'd saved up for the Krupp Diamond instead.

I fell in love with Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor through this book. This book shows the highs and the lows of their relationship. But you definitely feel their love and passion for life and for each other. Beautiful, tragic story.
