Description

Jamie, an ex-thief with a history of alcoholism and violence, is the prime suspect in the death of the man who molested and killed a six year old girl, during a burglary in San Francisco. Protected by his uncle’s influence and lack of evidence, he is not charged. For Jamie, the details of that night are buried in an alcoholic blackout. All he can remember is that he failed to protect an innocent child.

Now sober four years, Jamie is visited nightly by his childhood fantasies of a mysterious Celtic warrior and a dark haired lady. The warrior beckons him to join in a quest of righteous justice. Jamie seeks to understand the warrior’s message but fears it would reopen the doors to a world of violence he has been desperate to escape. Coupled with the random appearances of the little girl, Jamie fears for his sanity.

My first iBooks read and an excellent selection. Best book I've read all year, I thoroughly enjoyed it! Having been around San Francisco my entire life, I have this relatively benign image of the San Francisco I know. Echoes took me to a gritty San Francisco I've always imagined existed, but never experienced first hand. I was drawn into the main character (Jamie's) struggles, and fleeting brushes with (call it what you will) insanity, craziness, whatever. Tied with a great mystery, and thought provoking dilemmas, I found myself captured from cover to cover... there wasn't a slow spot in the book.
