Description

THE #1 BEST SELLING BOOK ON OBJECTIVE-C 2.0!

From the author of Programming in C,Programming in Objective-C 2.0 provides the new programmer a complete, step-by-step introduction to the Objective-C language. The book does not assume previous experience with either C or object-oriented programming languages, and it includes many detailed, practical examples of how to put Objective-C to use in your everyday programming needs.

Objective-C has become the standard programming language for application development on the Mac OS X and iPhone platforms. A powerful yet simple object-oriented programming language that’s based on the C programming language, Objective-C is widely available not only on OS X but across many operating systems that support the gcc compiler, including Linux, Unix, and Windows systems.

The second edition of this book has been updated and expanded to cover Objective-C 2.0. It shows not only how to take advantage of the Foundation framework’s rich built-in library of classes but also how to use the iPhone SDK to develop programs designed specifically for the iPhone and iPod Touch.

  • Really good, but...

This is an excellent introduction to objective C. I had some programming experience, but C was still pretty foreign to me. This book provided a great primer for understanding the lingo of obj-C starting with the very basics. However, just be aware that, at the end of the book, you'll program a calculator. You'll be able to use buttons and labels. Thats about it I tried to set up a simple picker (the slot machine things) and I have no idea what I'm doing and can't get it to work. So, this book will get you off to a great start, but you'll have a long way to go even after you've finished the whole thing.

Great book for learning objective-c, even for beginners. Could have had more information on using Xcode but there are other titles that go into more depth on the use of the developer tools. DON'T PAY ATTENTION TO THOSE NEGATIVE REVIEWS!! Ratings should be based on the content/quality of the books, not on the price compared to other sources. Besides iBooks has a much better layout and interface compared to the kindle app, and includes an integrated book store.

As you may have noticed Pearson is charging $8-$10 more for their books on the iBookstore compared to the Kindle version. If you're looking at this then you most likely have an iPad or iPhone. Do yourself a favor a buy the Kindle version if you really want this book. Then you can download Kindle for iPad/iPhone and read it from there.
