Description

Joan of Arc by Mark Twain are the personal recollections of Joan of Arc by the Sieur Louis de ConteIn. In 1429, a 17-year-old peasant girl receives a message from Heaven that she is to rescue France from its English oppressors. Within two years this most unlikely of heroines leads a ragtag army to victory, sees the king crowned, and dies at the stake, martyred by traitors. America's most famous storyteller, Mark Twain, was obsessed with the story of Joan of Arc, and labored 12 years to tell it in this novel, which he considered his masterpiece.

This book has captured my attention since I began reading it. Joan has inspired me, much like she inspired her soldiery, to become a better man and individual.

Probably one of the least known of all his works, the Joan of Arc story is the best of all his works. Absolutely brilliant in breathing life and bright colors into the faded tale of on of mankind’s most important figures.

FANTASTIC book!!! I could not stop turning the pages and hardly got anything done until I had finished it. Although historical and religious, it reads like fiction. It is fascinating, full of humor as well as drama, and beautifully written. I have a paperback copy but am adding a digital copy to my IPad so I can reread at any time. An absolutely amazing tale told by the greatest of story tellers. Must read.
