Description

All Sophie ever wanted was a way out. Only a few weeks ago, she was a quiet art student with an overbearing mother and no higher dream than starting university and reuniting with her BFF, but destiny intervenes in the form of a fox bite.
If being attacked by a rabid animal isn’t freaky enough, her new town has secrets. People are dying, and Sophie feels she is being watched. Then there’s the arrogant and annoyingly sexy Sebastian with his plummy accent and come-to-bed eyes creeping her out. She should stay well away, but then he does live in the spooky manor house, and curiosity is her middle name.

The main plot line seems like a good story, but it’s really difficult to follow. There are no transitions through the story. I mean literally on the same page it goes from one setting to another without any gap or transitioning sentence. This causes the reader to ask themselves, “Wait...what just happened?” Additionally, the main character seems to switch between two forms of dialect. If the author is going to have them speak a certain way; then, they should commit to having their entire, or majority, of speech done that way and not change it every other sentence.

I didn’t hate this but I didn’t love it either. We’re introduced to Sophie, who is attending University and she’s finally able to have some independence. She’s creative, has an artsy side. Falls into the pattern of school and making more friends through her BFF/roommate. And next thing you know, she sees Sebastian who captures her eye from the start but she immediately feels like there’s no way he’d be interested in her when any and every girl tries to capture his eye, specially Lana, blonde nemesis lol. But, we find out that Sophie is part of the very world that Sebastian doesn’t want her part of, but it’s inevitable she must play her part. Especially since she was chosen, not made or born into what she is. But I didn’t like how Sebastian kept her in the dark on some things, and maybe the other books give more and explanation but she’s a big girl and she can take that information. Especially if she’s your gf, she deserves honesty and trust. Give it a shot if you’re intrigued. SPOILERS AHEAD: And to what I said about him keeping secrets such as when Sebastian was gone away doing business that he’s father is part of and that he’ll eventually have to be the face of, she pines over him but then her eye darts to his cousin too. Who happens to always be shirtless lol. And he even asks her somewhere along the lines like, “don’t you feel something between us?” I get it, there’s usually a love triangle anyway but I don’t like Sebastian for her.

Not your same old paranormal. New approach to weres and vamps and told with a clear British accent that's droll and sometimes very humorous. I'm reading more of her work.

This book was incredible. The romance, fear, ACTION! One of the best books I've ever read in my opinion. All I have to say is that some of it was a little predictable, but otherwise great.
  • Good idea but...

Okay, I really tried hard to finish this book, but I just couldn't. The author had a really good idea but she needs to work on the delivery. So first, the pros. The story can captivate you initially and she had a great idea. Without that idea, no story can be written. Cons, the delivery. The story moved to fast, resulting in a lot of holes and missing details that are important to really understand and develop a connection with the characters. There lacked feeling, even if there was supposed to be romance. SPOILER ALERT: Sophie is supposed to be selfless and pure, which is why she was chosen by a goddess that turns into a fox. But, she is kind of a vindictive b*tch and mean. She is mean to Lara, who is a b*tch, and to Sebastian's grandmother. She does not even try to establish any type of relationship with his sister who is stuck between being human and werewolf. Sophie also goes out with Vincent when she thinks Sebastian cheated on her, knowing that he hates Vincent. There was very little emotions regarding Sebastian and Sophie's interactions regarding Sebastian possibly cheating on her. When she discovers that he was not cheating on her, bam, they have sex even though she's a virgin... You would think that emotions would be a bit more powerful, but nothing. I felt nada. It just didn't seem real. Also, whenever Sophie shows one of her powers, the other people's reactions we eh. When Sophie learns that she was not dreaming about being gifted with the fox goddess's power, she doesn't even ask any questions. I could go on and on. The bottom line, nothing about this seems real, not the characters, relationships or even interactions. I think if the author slows down in her telling of the story, writing the details needed to bring the story to life, she could eventually do really well as a writer. She seems to have good ideas but needs to work on her delivery of the story. Readers should not feel like it's a chore to get through a story. Don't rush. It's not a race to the finish.

I felt like this had potential but it jumped all over the place. I couldn't wait to finish and get it over with.

A subpar rendition of an overdone theme. Not worth the read for more experienced readers.

This book was absolutely fantastic. I read it on Wattpad originally. It is amazing. Defiantly worth buying, if I had money in my account. I will be recommending this book to my friends...if they will read it.

This book is amazing! I started reading it because it's the genre I tend to like, not really expecting that I would love it so much! The characters are captivating, and the plot is full of twists and turns to keep you guessing. Beware, once you get to the end of this book, you'll be frantic to find the second!
