Description

In one complete volume, here are the five classic novels from Douglas Adams’s beloved Hitchhiker series.

Now celebrating the pivotal 42nd anniversary of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, soon to be a Hulu original series!

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (Nominated as one of America’s best-loved novels by PBS’s The Great American Read)
Seconds before the Earth is demolished for a galactic freeway, Arthur Dent is saved by Ford Prefect, a researcher for the revised Guide. Together they stick out their thumbs to the stars and begin a wild journey through time and space.

The Restaurant at the End of the Universe
The moment before annihilation at the hands of warmongers is a curious time to crave tea. It could only happen to the cosmically displaced Arthur Dent and his comrades as they hurtle across the galaxy in a desperate search for a place to eat.

Life, the Universe and Everything
The unhappy inhabitants of planet Krikkit are sick of looking at the night sky– so they plan to destroy it. The universe, that is. Now only five individuals can avert Armageddon: mild-mannered Arthur Dent and his stalwart crew.

So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish
Back on Earth, Arthur Dent is ready to believe that the past eight years were all just a figment of his stressed-out imagination. But a gift-wrapped fishbowl with a cryptic inscription thrusts him back to reality. So to speak.

Mostly Harmless
Just when Arthur Dent makes the terrible mistake of starting to enjoy life, all hell breaks loose. Can he save the Earth from total obliteration? Can he save the Guide from a hostile alien takeover? Can he save his daughter from herself?

Includes the bonus story “Young Zaphod Plays It Safe”

“With droll wit, a keen eye for detail and heavy doses of insight . . . Adams makes us laugh until we cry.”—San Diego Union-Tribune

“Lively, sharply satirical, brilliantly written . . . ranks with the best set pieces in Mark Twain.”—The Atlantic

This is the greatest, most random science fiction story ever written! I’m collecting editions of the book, and this is technically my third copy of this version. All five books, one short story, one reasonable price and 42… well we don’t know what that is do we? Hilarious stories 42/10

I have a real life version and don’t actually own the digital version but I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book. I love the interjections by the Guide and the ridiculousness of the 42 thing and the flying in So Long And Thanks For All The Fish. This is the best book I have ever read.

Funny how the story weaves a finite set of people together and then going their own ways. The great mish mash shaker pours friends to the brink of British disaster just to comely find eddies in the unrelenting tide of space time. Absolutely brilliant and wonderfully addicting as to what will happen next I so want the patience and steadfast dead pan approach to tackle whatever happens to enter his private universe

I have a hard copy of this book (doesn’t matter, ‘cause it’s the same), and was very impressed. I absolutely loved random interjections by the Guide, as well as the story line. During So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish, it feels more like the characters are doing their own thing (e.g., Arthur trying to find out what happened to the dolphins, while also stumped that Earth still, despite being demolished by the Vogons, exists, while Zaphod does Zarquon-knows-what. However, it still is funny, because it retains the ridiculous physics and reason that runs this series; I highly recommend buying!!!

Third time in my life reading this book series and I still think it’s the greatest comedy book series ever written (Fletch in a close second.) if you love sci-fi and humor, this is for you. This collection has all five books plus a rather disappointing short story. The books are fantastic.

Satire isn't a favorite genre of mine. Yet this series of books by Douglas Adams is a very large social satirical reduction of how silly we humans really can be. I have read the entire series 5 tines or more sense I fell in love with someone who holds the mirror up to all or creation a makes me laugh. You will live several time over as each of your emotions ride around the cosmos. It was my pleasure Mr.Adams and thank you.
