The Manipulated Man
By Esther Vilar
- Release Date: 2011-02-22
- Genre: Social Science
Description
Esther Vilar’s classic polemic about the relationship between the sexes caused a sensation on its first publication. In her introduction to this revised edition, Vilar maintains that very little has changed. A man is a human being who works, while a woman chooses to let a man provide for
her and her children in return for carefully dispensed praise and sex. Vilar’s perceptive, thought-provoking and often very funny look at the battle between the sexes has earned her severe criticism and even death threats. But Vilar’s intention is not misogynous: she maintains that only if women and men look at their place in society with honesty, will there be any hope for change.
"A provocative, runaway bestseller.” NEWSWEEK
“Extraordinary... a vigorous answer to Women’s Lib.” THE TIMES
“No one escapes her icy scrutiny.” THE NEW YORK TIMES

Great book
5By Bugc87My eyes are open and my mind is clear.Unhinged
2By pinyconeReads like a parody of radical feminist literature with the genders swapped. From a 10,000 ft perspective there’s some ideas worth exploring here, primary how women use soft power to their advantage. I would’ve liked to see more evidence to support her arguments, there’s a couple spots she cites research but this reads more like a manifesto. Since today’s discourse around gender politics usually devolves into “Men oppress women, end of story”, this book is at least another take against that mainstream idea, even if it’s a nuclear hot take. Read this with a critical lens. The Manipulated Man
