The Rook
By Daniel O'Malley
- Release Date: 2012-01-11
- Genre: Adventure Sci-Fi
Description
Myfanwy Thomas awakens in a London park surrounded by dead bodies. With her memory gone, she must trust the instructions left by her former in order to survive. She quickly learns that she is a Rook, a high-level operative in a secret agency that protects the world from supernatural threats. But there is a mole inside the organization, and this person wants her dead.
Battling to save herself, Myfanwy will encounter a person with four bodies, a woman who can enter her dreams, children transformed into deadly fighters, and terrifyingly vast conspiracy.
Suspenseful and hilarious, The Rook is an outrageously imaginative thriller for readers who like their espionage with a dollop of purple slime.
"Utterly convincing and engrossing -- -totally thought-through and frequently hilarious....Even this aging, jaded, attention-deficit-disordered critic was blown away."-Lev Grossman, Time
Reviews
quick and amusing read
3By James_and_the_giant_POTATOThis was a quick and interesting read. If you have a free saturday and don't mind a few moments where its hard to suspend disbelief this is an entertaining and slightly humorous romp :)One of the best books of the year !!!
5By WaynmethodThe Rook is an impeccably-written story that mixes the real and supernatural in perfect proportions. I literally avoided work for a full day in order to finish reading this book. It was worth taking a sick day.Unique, funny, and well-written

5By HandoverfistIt was a fun ride, I hope to read more ThanksI loved this book!
4By 3gsxGreat characters, a unique story, would love to read the sequel if and when it is written. I did find the story getting bogged down sometimes, the pacing a bit off, but it ends big and fast, you won't be disappointed.Engrossing
5By CCallahan011Completely engrossing, this book enthralled me from the first paragraph. I read a fair amount and this is the best book I've read in quite a while. The back stories and character developments are revealed alongside the plot developments in a very well written tale that has made me long for another book from this author. The premise of the story was unique and as you start out discovering everything alongside the main character, her identity and why she's in danger; demanded my attention. I've already recommend this book to several of my friends and will continue to do so.Great read!
4By Darrell521Quirky, but a definite page-turner!Absolutely Amazing
5By Jax the AwesomeThis has been one of the most fun reads I've done in a while. I pray there will be a squel. The Rook delivers.
5By Beck$TNThe Rook is fast paced, funny, and thoroughly entertaining. The only criticism is the ending. I think there are multiple endings (perhaps the author wasn't sure about how to end the book) but that is okay. I hope this becomes a series. Read it!
