Description

In this international bestseller, father and advocate for Autism awareness Arthur Fleischmann blends his daughter Carly’s own words with his story of getting to know his remarkable daughter—after years of believing that she was unable to understand or communicate with him.

At the age of two, Carly Fleischmann was diagnosed with severe autism and an oral motor condition that prevented her from speaking. Doctors predicted that she would never intellectually develop beyond the abilities of a small child. Carly remained largely unreachable through the years. Then, at the age of ten, she had a breakthrough.

While working with her devoted therapists, Carly reached over to their laptop and typed “HELP TEETH HURT,” much to everyone’s astonishment. Although Carly still struggles with all the symptoms of autism, she now has regular, witty, and profound conversations on the computer with her family and her many thousands of supporters online.

One of the first books to explore firsthand the challenges of living with autism, Carly’s Voice brings readers inside a once-secret world in the company of an inspiring young woman who has found her voice and her mission

While only a few chapters into the book, I am simply touched at how eloquent it is. My daughter is six and has Duplicate 15q syndrome. It feels like I am reading my own story. Everything I have felt, but never been able to organize into such clear thought!

Wow! Thank you so much for writing this book, Carly's Dad! It brought so many emotions out in me as I read it, one of which was some depression. I am the mother of four, my youngest having Down syndrome and Autism. It is hard. Reading your words reminded me of how hard it can be for me and my family. I tend to take one day at a time, sometimes a minute at a time. I am like you in that I am an optimist, so I look at the positives when times are tough. Having said that, I don't want it to seem a bad thing that it was a little depressing at times to read. It was therapeutic! I was able to sift through some of my feelings and realize I am not alone. More positively, you and Carly have given me such insight and hope! There were many ah-ha moments of understanding. I am more determined than ever to help my son with his inner voice through PECS and hopefully one day use his iPad with Proloquo2go. I have inherited his iPad because he's not quite yet ready for it. :-) THANK YOU for Carly's Voice! I follow Carly on Facebook and someday I would love to meet you, Carly!!!

Awesomeness!!! Just like Carly! This book has given me so much more hope! So much more energy to keep going with helping my daughter when there have been times that I feel we had no hope. So much more to think about the alertness we need to have when they are in someone else's care, in regards to their safe being. This family is truly blessed to have all the support they have and the amazing daughter that has proved to all of us that there so much more we CAN do to help! Her sister and brother are amazing to always have been there for their sister without looking at her as the "Cinderella" of the family! God bless you all and keep on amazing you and us with more great achievements from our beautiful "elephants"! :)
