To get into the plot. Eventually it became an interesting tale that held my attention.
A Great Piece of Historic Fiction and Intrigue

If you liked Dan Brown you will love Steve Berry. Like Brown Berry interweaves historic fact and fiction into a story filled with murder, suspense, mystery and intrigue. Fast moving storylines blend with solid character development and historic legends to create a spellbinding story involving gold mines, lost treasures of the Jewish Temple, and intrigue surrounding the mysterious life of Christopher Columbus.
Terrific!

history plus story properly intertwined, without long winding historical speeches, all quite well cooked together to entertain, enlighten, enliven, want to read more of Berry. Stay with it.
Quick read although it can get bogged down in the details

I finished this in 4 nights. It reads quickly and does a great job adding bits and pieces to Columbus's legacy. There are a few instances when the details slow the pace but overall, the descriptions of locales and history are well done.
The biggest drawback I have with this novel is Alle Beckett. Yes, it was the author's intention to portray her as naive and refusing to forgive her father, but her actions are too calculating and cold (not to mention frustrating) to make her remotely likable. The resolution feels rushed and, sadly, ends the book with the feeling of, "that's it?"
The author's notes were a bonus.

I read this book in three nights! Masterfully written, researched and presented this book made me keep turning the pages long after my bedtime! My only complaint for the book is that it made me sleepy at work for three days running. If you are a lover of the historical novel as I am, Bon appetit!
Steve Berry hits a home run again!

Very entertaining. Mr. Berry never disappoints me. This book is another great proof of that. The way he mixes fact and fiction is great. Much better than Dan Brown. When are we going to see Cotton Malone in the big screen?
Couldn't finish

Rarely do I not complete a book once I've started reading. Quit this one after 100 pages -- slow moving, vague plot.
Another page turner....

If you are a die hard Steve Berry fan you will not be disappointed! Although, I kept hoping Cotton Malone might show up! Because there is so little known about Columbus, it allows you to really use and stretch your imagination. Highly recommend!
Another Berry Blockbuster

The Columbus Affair is another Steve Berry blockbuster. I started reading Berry two years ago and haven't missed any of them. Including the short stories. I've been waiting for months for this book to come out, and I'm not disappointed. It's with great sadness that I have to wait for the next one. I wish all books could grab my attention like this one. I found it a fast read. I miss Cotton Malone but I think Berry's "stand alone" novels are some of his best.
Not what I'd expect...

This is a deviation from Mr. Berry's 'Cotton Malone' series, and what a deviation it is. It smells of Daniel Silva, the movie 'Goonies' and a ghost writer.
I was disappointed in the storyline, and the awkward nature that the Magellan Groups was referred to. It seemed like it was just a blunted attempt at the ever attempted Columbus conspiracy theory with twists of ill attempted history. Sorry Steve, I muddled through it but it was hard.
Interesting Story

Good story but far from his best. A little slow at times.

Steve Berry always weaves a wonderful suspenseful story line with believable characters. Once I start his books they are extremely hard to tear myself away to do other things.
Not what I anticipated

This was my first Steve Berry novel and I do hope that it is not indicative of his well known series with 'Cotton'. I found the premise of this story to be intriguing, but it was presented in a very long, drawn out, redundant and somewhat boring book. Not to be compared to the better historical adventures that I have read.
Intriguing

Very intriguing and captivating story. Fits my quest to understand some of my family history as well.
