I have the book, Ordeal by Hunger, about the tragedy of the Donner Party; but this one was written within a few decades after the tragic episode took place. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. At times it got a bit wordy, but there are many details given, lots of quotations from original sources, and the author met the majority of the survivors in person. This was an excellent resource for anyone interested in knowing in depth every detail about what happened and why, to these unfortunate emigrants. I recommend it very much.

Such a sad sad story that is beautifully told in great detail. I was unaware of the severity in which these poor people found themselves. I found myself pondering frequently at how I would have reacted in a similar situation.
