Description

The legendary hero Allanon takes center stage in the first of three gripping new stand-alone eBook short stories set in the world of the fantasy-fiction phenomenon that is Shannara—by beloved New York Times bestselling author Terry Brooks.

The history is thus: The once-Druid Brona, seduced by his pursuit of dark magic, was forever transformed into the Warlock Lord—whose evil would be the downfall of the Four Lands and the death of the Races. Against him, the Elven King Jerle Shannara wielded the fabled sword that bore his surname and triumphed. Or so it was believed. But though the Dark Lord was driven out . . . he was not destroyed.

The Druid Allanon knows only too well the prophecy passed down to him by his late master: that eventually the Warlock Lord will return. Now, after hundreds of years, that day seems imminent. And the time is at hand for the Sword of Shannara to once more be brought forth from its sanctuary to serve its ancient purpose. All that remains is for a blood descendent of the Elven house of Shannara to carry the blade into battle.

With ever more portents of doom on the horizon, Allanon must seek out the last remaining Shannara heir, who alone will bear the burden of defending the Four Lands’ destiny. But with agents of darkness closing in from behind, unexpected enemies lying in wait ahead, and treachery encroaching on every side, there can be no certainty of success. Nor any assurance that this desperate quest will not be the Druid’s last.

What a great way to provide more insight into what was such an important story for the Shannara world. I love seeing glimpses into what it was like just before Sword of Shannara. Keep pumping these out!

Excellent read for only 99 cents. I definitely hope he writes more of these soon to fill in the stories of different characters.
  • Good short story, poor ebook experience

Fills in between the story between the origin of Allanon and the original trilogy nicely but distracts with duplicated pages, misspelled words, and grammatical errors. Unfortunately this lack of quality and polish is quite common with his ebook titles.
  • A great prelude to Sword of Shannar

I have been a Terry Brooks fan since the late 1970s when I read The Sword of Shannara as a comic strip in the Chicago Tribune. Since then I have read allis books. Allanon's Quest is a short, interesting prelude to the book that started it all. Brooks gives a little more insight and motivation to the main character as well as more history behind Shea Olmsford. I believe that having the format of ebooks will allow Mr. Brooks and other authors the same opportunity to explore and expand upon the characters and lands they have created.

I forced myself to wait until 2 days before the "Wards of Farie" release date to read the excerpt... Now I'm gonna be driving myself crazy trying to occupy my brain while I wait for the 21st to arrive. I've read all 20 or so books in the Shannara series and loved every single one.. Although I like the ones after the great wars a lot more. 2 more days til my preorder downloads!! I'm so stoked... Plus I hear another book is coming out in September, then another every six months for the next year and a half starting with Khyber being the Ard Ryhs or however u spell it... Anyways... The Paladins of Shannara is a good read.. Although it only takes an hour or so to read, it's cool to see how Allanon comes to find the "person he needs" (for those who haven't read the Sword of Shannara) If you are one of those people, don't wait. Go out and buy all three books in the series.. I promise u won't be disappointed... Thanks Terry Brooks, Sincerely, Jace '-,-'

While reading Allanon's quest a curious thing began to happen to me. I started to get the same feeling of excitement I had the first time I picked up Sword do Shannara. This short story manages to recapture the feeling of the first book of the series, behaving like a prolog that was always there. I would suggest this quick read to any fan of the series looking to get more of their favirote Druid. It would also make a great starting part for curious readers looking for a place to beet thier feet wet in the Shannara universe.
  • Missing 50 pages!

What I was able to read was great but the fact that it is missing multiple pages makes this not worth purchasing.
  • Great as usual, WAY to short though!!!
