Description

A woman used to taking charge is about to meet a man who'll make her lose control in this novel from the New York Times bestselling author of On Dublin Street.

It has always been up to Johanna to care for her family, particularly her younger brother, Cole. With an absent father and a useless mother, she’s been making decisions based on what’s best for Cole for as long as she can remember. She even determines what men to date by how much they can provide for her brother and her, not on whatever sparks may—or may not—fly.

But with Cameron MacCabe, the attraction is undeniable. The sexy new bartender at work gives her butterflies every time she looks at him. And for once, Jo is tempted to put her needs first. Cam is just as obsessed with getting to know Jo, but her walls are too solid to let him get close enough to even try.

Then Cam moves into the flat below Jo’s, and their blistering connection becomes impossible to ignore. Especially since Cam is determined to uncover all of Jo’s secrets...even if it means taking apart her defenses piece by piece.

Fantastic, a wonderful sequel, satisfying with plenty of follow up with other characters from the first novel interwoven into the storyline.

How has it taken me so long to find your books?! I have read four of your books this week alone! As I read I find myself completely involved with the characters and for the life of me I can’t put the book down. I’m way behind the others but I don’t see me stopping anytime soon! On to the next..

I had read On Dublin Street years ago and this was a series I had always wanted to get back to.  The audiobook was offered at a great price so I had to jump on it.  Elle Newlands is a suburb narrator, I loved the accents! This story snuck up on me and I was surprised how much I got into it.  Jo was such a complex character, who was shaped of years of abuse and neglect into a woman with very little self-worth.  She only thought she was good for being a pretty face and a good girlfriend.  And she was resigned to that as long as she was able to care for her brother.   It was heartbreaking, because you knew and felt that she could be so much more if only she believed in herself.  Then comes Cameron.  To be honest I didn’t like him at first, you weren’t meant to, he was horrible to Jo and you honestly want to reach into the book and nut punch him.  Yet their attraction and sexual tension grows and grows.  It was a tangible thing.  Jo and Cameron’s story was raw and full of feeling and one that will stick with me for a time.  The one thing that I loved was that Cameron helped Jo discover he self-worth and to realize she is more than just a girlfriend.  That is what a true partner does, the lift you up and make you better.  That is what Cameron did for Jo and it was bloody brilliant.....Sara

I do believe I loved this book the best. The character development in this book was and is superb. I really had a great sense of who Jo, Cole, and Cam were. Even though the book was strictly in Jo's POV. I still felt like I understood what Cam went through with her and his emotions. I also enjoyed learning a little bit about Cole. Can't wait for the next book about Olivia and Nate. I would like to read something about Hannah and Cole. Not with them getting together but just them in general.

  • A solid 4.0, but you have to want it ...

I enjoyed this book, although it doesn't come close to my On Dublin Street level of love. It's a heartfelt story that literally had me sobbing at points, but it took much ado to get me there. The first half of this book, unfortunately, tested my will to stick with it ... and I cannot lie, it wasn't the easiest read. You had to really want it, which for me came when Cam shared his tattoo history with Jo. I just knew after that. The premise that this utterly broken woman had found the man who could return to her everything that she'd had stolen from her ... worth, confidence, pride, value, peace, family and real love for who she really was deep down inside urged me to continue until the end. Cameron? Although he didn't rival my Braden love, he is perfect for Jo. Jo was consistent and grew on me as she was surprisingly deeper than ODS would suggest. Ironically, it's exactly that notion of judging a book by its cover that is the constant undercurrent in this book. Be Caledonia. Worth making it through to the end.

I didn't think Jo was a sympathetic character in On Dublin Street, but this turned out to be another great book by Samantha Young. A sweet love story with lots of emotion as Jo confronts her demons and finds a future with the help of a great guy. A lovely well-written book. Can't wait for Young's next one.
