Description

During what was supposed to be a few days of skiing at the Whistler Mountain resort with an attractive female acquaintance, former homicide detective Hunter Rayne finds himself the prime suspect in the RCMP's hunt for "The Chairlift Killer". Hunter has no choice but to get involved in the investigation in order to clear his name.

Meanwhile, trucker Hunter was scheduled to haul a load of freight to Northern California, so he calls up his old friend, biker Dan Sorenson, to take his place behind the wheel. What connects the badass biker from Yreka, California to the most prolific female serial killer in US history? And what happens when dispatcher El Watson ignores Hunter's warning and sends the biker on a search for clues to the motive behind the murder?

In the midst of the investigation, Hunter's life gets complicated when the progress of his new relationship is hampered by the appearance of a woman from his troubled past.

Sea to Sky is the third novel in the Hunter Rayne highway mystery series.

Donald weaves a story around the famous Whistler Mtn. ski area and resort complex. Hunter gets caught up in the middle with a girlfriend who turns out to be less than that and a cast of characters who all end up be suspects or people of interest to the RCMP, who are ultimately in charge of the investigation. The reader will likely be surprised at the ending. More to come with Hunter and his next adventure.

Easygoing book (if that makes any sense). Plot was simple and easy to guess. Limited character development but can see potential in the series.

Different backstory, characters and settings. Interesting to learn about transportation industry. Somewhat unusual resolution to the murder. But so many potential story lines were introduced and then dropped that it was confusing. But worth the read for sure.

Great book. Wish writers did not have to use foul language so much though. Loved the characters— the good ones anyway,
  • Refreshing to find an author who can write

I read far too many mysteries. Most are not really written that well. This one is the first I've read by this author. She can write! Her story is about marital abuse and child abuse. It is also about corruption in business, and the need for people to forgive family members. It's about family love. The characters are well described. The plot twists and turns while drawing the reader in. One fault of the author, is the too often use of one character's full name. John Irwin. The reader doesn’t need to have his full name more than a couple of times. I found it hard to put the book down. Look for the clues, and you'll be able to figure out who did it. Now, I need to read the rest in the series.

What a story! I had the guilty party pegged from the beginning....only to have confirmed at the very end that it was was someone else! Very well told, and also well edited!

After really enjoying Sundown, I looked forward to another Hunter Rayne mystery. I found it a fast read, with interesting characters but with an abrupt ending that didn't tie up loose ends. Who was Meredith's mysterious client? What did the Gunness serial killer have to do with anything? And the killer was a far fetched idea. I think by Sundown, the author had really developed her skills, and I would recommend it.

A good book that I enjoyed, but no real suspense. A lot of quick changes from one place/person to another.
