Description
L. M. Montgomery is perhaps best known as an author of youth fiction, especially her Anne of Green Gables series. But of her novels intended for adult readers, The Blue Castle is the most famous.
In Valancy Stirling’s rural Ontario town, marriage is thought to be a young woman’s vital accomplishment. Yet Valancy, now in her late 20s, has never had a flicker of interest from any suitor. Add to this the oppressive home life she endures with her mother, and Valancy’s misery is complete. In order to find some relief, she builds a fantasy world in her imagination—her “Blue Castle”—full of love and beauty. Even this, however, fails to support her when her chest pains prove to be the sign of a terminal condition.
This traumatic discovery combines with Valancy’s inspirational reading to prompt her to take back her life—much to her relatives’ consternation. Undeterred, Valancy finds new worth and freedom in relationships she could never have imagined before, which bring their own surprising twists and turns.

Courage to Change
5By Rocking On!What a great read! I felt so sorry for the character Vallancy. Her home life was depressing. No one took notice of her, not even on her birthday. They were only consumed with themselves and sought to use , boss and undermine her. I felt myself cheering for her when she decided to change her circumstances due to a doctor’s diagnosis. You will enjoy her adventures, her new friends, her love interest and new home. Couldn’t put this story down. Read it in two days!A Treasure!
5By Finicky ReaderThe book started out boring and it wasn’t until the main character decided to change that I became interested. I realized soon that the author had to expose the life for what it was in order to make her point. The language is lyrical at times and you feel the cadence of the language. I am sorry I have to say goodbye to Valancy.Loved loved loved

5By Tiggy/CookieThis book was written in 1922. I didn’t really know what to expect, but it was free to read. I have to admit I ended up thoroughly enjoying it. It was both sad and uplifting and completely clean, quite novel these days.Highly recommend!
