Description

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • More than one million copies sold! Essentialism isn’t about getting more done in less time. It’s about getting only the right things done.

“A timely, essential read for anyone who feels overcommitted, overloaded, or overworked.”—Adam Grant

Have you ever:
• found yourself stretched too thin?
• simultaneously felt overworked and underutilized?
• felt busy but not productive?
• felt like your time is constantly being hijacked by other people’s agendas?

If you answered yes to any of these, the way out is the Way of the Essentialist

Essentialism is more than a time-management strategy or a productivity technique. It is a systematic discipline for discerning what is absolutely essential, then eliminating everything that is not, so we can make the highest possible contribution toward the things that really matter.

By forcing us to apply more selective criteria for what is Essential, the disciplined pursuit of less empowers us to reclaim control of our own choices about where to spend our precious time and energy—instead of giving others the implicit permission to choose for us.

Essentialism is not one more thing—it’s a whole new way of doing everything. It’s about doing less, but better, in every area of our lives. Essentialism is a movement whose time has come.

  • Definitely Applies To My Life As a Teenager

The book “Essentialism” by Greg McKeown presents a convincing argument for his solution to a problem that applies to me as a teenager. I really enjoyed it. First of all, it was easy to understand. It used language I could easily process, something uncommon in academic books. It also had a clear outline that made sense and centered on the main idea. McKeown did this by separating the book into steps and sub-steps of becoming an Essentialist. The evidence provided was also super convincing. He used powerful statistics to back up his argument and really made me want to take his advice. Further, McKeown included many convincing and relatable examples of people who practice Essentialism. The book is a bit long, but these stories keep it interesting and make it all worthwhile because they also make it easier to understand the concepts he is describing. Essentially, I would recommend “Essentialism” to other teenagers if they feel overstressed and busy.

This book gets to the heart of a lot of self inflicted issues such as stress, chronic sleep issues, and more. It’s not a checklist but instead an operating system. Thank you for writing this!
  • Keep it simple, silly

While it’s easy to say things like that, it’s often more difficult to put into practice beyond conceptualizing simplicity. I’ve enjoyed reading Greg’s book as it has helped me to reframe my thinking. I am not good enough at essentialism yet to consider myself an essentialist through and through, but I do feel the impact the book has had in the way I think of the things I do, say, and agree to do.

I am going back over Essentialism and purchased (half-way through) Effortless. Two great books, to master Essentialism is a process, but it’s worth it and McKeown writes with sincerity and care.

Greg Mckeown simplifies life’s decisions and choices with one question - “What is essential?”. This book is a must read for anyone who is looking to take back control of their lives from distractions and non-essential noise that keep us from achieving our ultimate goals. I highly recommend!
