On page 11, the pictographs for volcano are correct but mislabeled as fire + tree instead of fire + mountain.

This is a beautifully designed little book, and one that would nicely be applicable to illustrated storytelling, particularly for children (and their parents) as is the typical scenario. My inclination is to think it would be nice if there were both the visual reference for the characters as is shown but alongside the characters alone so that the brain can let go of the associated image and work back and forth between the two visuals.

A fun, simple and memorable way to learn to read and write in Chinese

As a language teacher, it's important to remember that there are different kinds of learners. Some are aural learners, others are visual, and some learn best through practical application. But to be a good teacher, it's important to be a good learner. I am most certainly a visual learner, and this book appeals 100% to my love of colours and pictures in language learning. ShaoLan Hsueh has truly created a treasure and a milestone in the learning of Chinese script. Her use of both traditional and simplified characters, as well as her handy explanations to help you remember the symbolism of the characters, really creates what should be the backbone to every student of Chinese's studies. Highly recommendable, to both young and old, learners and teachers alike!

This book was written by a Taiwanese writer, so it makes sense that the characters are traditional Mandarin characters, as Taiwan doesn't use the simplified versions. I'm a foreigner living in Taiwan right now and I've found this book to be really helpful! Traditional Chinese characters are more complicated than the simplified versions, which can only provide more understanding for those learning simplified.
