Description

A revised edition of the timeless business classic—updated to help today’s readers succeed more quickly in a rapidly changing world.

For decades, The One Minute Manager® has helped millions achieve more successful professional and personal lives. While the principles it lays out are timeless, our world has changed drastically since the book’s publication. The exponential rise of technology, global flattening of markets, instant communication, and pressures on corporate workforces to do more with less—including resources, funding, and staff—have all revolutionized the world in which we live and work.

Now, Ken Blanchard and Spencer Johnson have updated The One Minute Manger to introduce the book’s powerful, important lessons to a new generation. In their concise, easy-to-read story, they teach readers three very practical secrets about leading others—and explain why these techniques continue to work so well.

As compelling today as it was thirty years ago, this classic parable of a young man looking for an effective manager is more relevant and useful than ever.

I was desperate for a quick read that would double as meaningful advice as I entered my promotion into management. This book follows other works by the author which follow a similar theme of simplicity and clarity. The 3 easy-to-understand step structure helped me to find out the “why” behind good management, allowed for malleability, and encouraged me to adapt the skills I learned instantly into the workplace.

This book is an outstanding overview of how to work with the people you manage. It devotes it’s message to having a lighter but more effective touch by first stating clear objectives and then following up on them in one of two ways, either by utilizing effective praise or by utilizing effective redirection. I would highly recommend it both to new and seasoned managers and leaders alike.

I read the original book many years ago. I had forgotten the basic concepts over the years, but in a review of the older version recently I noticed that, in some way I practiced them in my leading even thought I forgot. It made a difference without my knowing and remembering. This version is very relevant to today's leader. If you believe in yourself and your team, give this a read and it may help you too.

  • Good advice, painful to read

Why was it written as a conversation? It makes for painful reading, like a movie script. The messages are good, though. The summaries are what you want so skip to those.

Very easy read that is full of great wisdom. These should be common sense steps in leading people but sadly aren't.
